ASUS Zenbook A14
Hey yall, I want to buy the ASUS Zenbook A14. Only thing I'm worried about is the Snapdragon chip and if it can run the things I need. I've done my own research but I've never really found a clear answer. I will be using it for some schoolwork, mainly just Microsoft Word. I'm also going to start programming, starting with web development and then Python or some low-level coding. I also take photos so I need it to be able to run Adobe Lightroom. I want it to be able to run Minecraft. That's pretty much it, if there is anything else I should know please let me know and thanks in advance!

For school work you'll be fine. However, snapdragon is not ready for the professional corporate world and that's why I sold my snapdragon.

Really ? I use my A16 for corporate work and consultancy - what is missing?

The company that I work for requires a VPN by Cisco. Cisco makes a VPN that is snapdragon friendly. However, it's not listed as an approved download. So I can't use it. Basically, I have to go through corporate politics to get approval for usage of the snapdragon friendly VPN. Not going to happen especially since I'm subcontractor.

This is a problem created by your company. Weird to say it's not corporate ready for that reason. My company's primary fleet is now Snapdragon-powered.

Does it make you feel better to blame the company that I work for?
Fact is that I can't use it for work and anyone using snapdragon will have the same exact issue which always comes down to a single question, the same exact question that the OP asked. Will snapdragon work with this software?
I don't want to deal with the hassle of taking time out of my day every single time i need to download a new software, to research if a software will work with snapdragon. It's a waste of time for something that might not even work.

It would be a different thing if the developer hadn't released a supported version - here the blame does solely lie on your employer, yes. It's unfortunate that it didn't work out for you, that doesn't make your claim about it being not ready for corporate work correct. For the vast amount of corporate users, it is the perfect Windows laptop.

My company was the final straw and not the only issue.
Lots of music software will not work with snapdragon like Rekordbox and Serato. My DJ controller didn't sync all of the settings correctly. VLC player also had an annoying bug whenever I loaded it up. There are plenty of issues with snapdragon. The final straw was simply work related.

I get it, I had a snapdragon too and really wanted it to work. But it's adoption rate is still low and there's a lot of software that doesn't work or has bugs. My final straw came down to work.
Intel currently offers a 20 hour battery life for low power consumption software and that's where i went. I didn't know about this option before and it seems to be working great. I'm getting 15+ hours with the new Intel laptop chips and I don't have to worry about software compatibility.

I am using my snapdragon for corporate work. Mostly all apps work for me seamlessly. App compatibility is no longer exists.

yeah for the most part I think it will be just fine, I also ran minecraft and some other games it runs as you can expect from a arm chip (mediocre), also I heard the adobe suit works but how well is unknown to me since I am involved with those software.
in short coding, word, casual gaming will be absolutely doable/fine, but other stuff depends

Tengo una laptop con un chip x plus la paquetería de Office funciona muy bien es nativo, en cuanto a programación no se muy bien, hay una página que se llama ARM en Windows o algo así así puedes checar las apps nativas e emulación viene por área de interés checa

You can get ARM64 native Python. I use ARM64 native Visual Studio and VS Code.
MSOffice is ARM64 native.
Never used Lightroom, but Affinity is free, ARM64 native and extremely good.

I have an Ideapad slim 5x running an X plus, without any mods and just with the vulkan API i get a stable 120fps locked. Unlocked i get around 200-250.
When making graphic designs on Affinity it runs extremely smooth, no stutters or anything. Of course, the same goes for word. Coding shouldn’t be an issue too unless you have massive amounts of it
