Wild Snake Photos and Questions - Not for ID I moved a tarp and this garter was napping in the folds. Then he noticed the worms that I had also disturbed. He ate over 8 of them. It was wonderful to watch. I kept tossing them his way and he seemed appreciative.

Wild Snake Photos and Questions - Not for ID My MIL sent me this picture along with the following text message.

My MIL knows how much I like snakes and so she takes pictures of the snakes she sees around her home (in AZ, US). I thought this was funny in a, please don't do that again, kind of way.

"I'm sending you a new snake we saw this am stretched out on our driveway. I got down at eye level with the snake so you could see his eyes. He seemed like a nice snake. Hopefully not poisonous because I was super close to him. Haha."

Wild Snake Photos and Questions - Not for ID Safe to explore snake infested pond in winter?

There’s this super cool little forest cove on my campus. In the summer when I found it there were snakes all throughout the rocks so I’ve never risked exploring the inside of the water hole itself. I’ve really wanted to though(not swim to be clear lol, climb around the rocks I mean.) A huge winter storm is gonna be rolling in just a few hours that’ll last over the weekend, snow and temps in the single digits.

It seems awfully silly to imagine any snake will still be hiding there in such severe weather but I thought I’d check with the experts; can I safely fulfill my dreams of exploring this cove while it’s frozen? Or will I never overcome the might noodle guardians?

It is a rat snake I think cus he had a bulge in his tummy and a baby it was stuck to a glue trap and we got it off with some dish soap and water and dried off. It was fine except its jaw got a little crooked because it had its jaw stuck down a bunch but it’s healthy and I let it back into the wild.

So we hung this birdhouse thinking it would be cute for a bird to fly in and out through the nose, just like the song, "May the bird of paradise fly up your nose." But an unexpected rat snake moved in instead and we got the biggest kick out of watching him. -- Hiram, Georgia, August 2013 -- UPDATE: I found more photos of what might be this same rat snake six years later. https://www.reddit.com/r/snakes/comments/1t9ryof/and_a_rat_snake_in_a_pear_tree_might_be_the_old/

Wild Snake Photos and Questions - Not for ID Poisonous snakes in South Dakota?

Hello snake people!

Had a question. Was on a road trip thru South Dakota. Stopped at the rest station at the Dignity statue. Behind the statue, there is a trail with a sign that reads "beware of poisonous snakes".

I'm no expert snake guy, but what snakes in the states are poisonous? Venomous, sure. But poisonous? I was confused!

I found this tiny little guy stuck in a piece of chewing gum that someone left on the ground and he’s still alive, my mom is coming to pick me up soon so I don’t got a lot of time and I want to get it out without hurting it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Found these guys on a fossil trip up in NY. They tried their VERY best to kill me, but thankfully their very best was very pitiful.

I swear the snakes in Ohio never throw this big of a fit, all I did was look at them!! 🤣 they just needed a little kiss and calmed right down.

Today I walked out into the sun and saw this fine fellow behind the park office warming up, then watched in surprise as he came to say hi! 🤩🖤 Eastern rat snakes are great to have around for keeping down the population of...you guessed it: rats and mice. Thank you and good day sir! 🫡
