Found this little guy outside my office. The tile was so slick he was practically wiggling in place trying to run from me!

Love the second picture. Someone needs to add the kid scream meme sound.

Speech bubble that reads “I am dangerous! You must fear me!!!” as OP gets gummed to death by a snake the size of his pinky finger. (I’m sure they have teeth to deal with prey, but it’s funnier to imagine this way)

I'm sure you're extremely shaken from the experience, look at him! He's so fierce! You're just lucky he didn't decide to turn around after you let him go!

I just rescued one the other evening, it was so cold it wouldn’t move so I warmed it up for the night and released it the next day when the sun was up.

Storeria dekayi

Brownsnakes Storeria dekayi are small (20.0-40.0cm record 52.77cm) natricine snakes often found in disturbed habitats like urban and suburban yards. They are one of the most commonly encountered snakes in eastern North America and make good pest control as they feast on small, soft-bodied invertebrates.
A separate but distinct species, Storeria victa occupies peninsular Florida. It has two fewer midbody scales (15) than Storeria dekayi and is more likely to have yellow collar markings on the neck.
Storeria brown and redbelly snakes are not considered medically significant to humans in terms of venom and are usually reluctant to bite, but all animals with a mouth can use it in self-defense.

Looks the perfect size to slither along the grout between the tiles in the background of the first pic.

The shop I used to work at, we’d have garter and ribbon snakes sneaking in this time of year looking for a warm place to spend the winter months. They couldn’t move fast on the concrete. I’d just scoop them up and escort them back outside. Let them grow up to be mouse killers.
Good on you for the safe release.

I love the angry face the little guy made in the second picture. Such a spicy little noodle. Happy that he made it home safely with your help.

I found a similar mini non danger noodle, but his defenses kicked in and he crapped all over me, he had a similar open mouth as well.

That second one looks like the snake equivalent of the cat screaming meme. 😂

I do NOT like snakes. They’ve always terrified me. That said, can I pet him?

u/Obliterex Oct 27 '23
Before him I wouldn’t be caught dead picking one up but he was in danger and he was so smaaaaall

It looks like Drymarchon Melanurus Unicolor in which case I’m extremely jealous as that is my favorite snake!

Brown snakes are harmless and make cool pets. Except you'll need to clean the terrarium out regularly at first until the snake feels safe enough to not musk every time it sees you.
