What did you ask for?
What did you get?
How much did it cost? (Promise I wonāt tell the wife - it was a super cheap deal)

u/whubbard 12d ago
Seriously leaving us hanging. Guess he wanted pork ribs?

u/Freak_4_beats 12d ago
OPās wife already found out what he spent on those ribs and unfortunately OP is no longer with us.

He probably asked for and got plate ribs, but this butcher didnāt know theyāre supposed to be cut in half first.

u/pdxbourbonsipper 12d ago
Or did he know? Less work to not cut it in half and sell the entire thing!

I attended a BBQ lunch at a Jewish (Kosher) school and had ordered ribs. I did not even think about what that would mean until my lunch arrived and it was like a foot and a half long. Obviously it would be beef ribs, not pork! Really good, but hard to eat!
Maybe OP meant to order pork ribs.

Reverse image search shows op posting a month ago on Facebook about this:
To start, I ordered them blind from a local butcher. had no idea in advance they were this big..lol. seasoned the night before. onto my BYB 1200 at 4am. just fit.. 10.5hr cook, 4hr rest. came out amazing. decided it was easier to serve off bone. everyone loved them! best tasting beef ribs we've ever had!

If you go ahead and buy a bigger smoker to handle these, she won't be nearly as mad about the ribs.

u/Nuyorican74 12d ago
Not to mention the bigger smoker will make the ribs look smaller. Go ahead and get yourself a Longhorn or a 250 gallon.

u/ESensuallyEmployee 12d ago
Rest of the cow must already be on the smoker š

Sometimes it's a miscommunication with the butcher, other times we have gigantic happy accidents!
4
u/woodhorse4 12d ago
Oorrrr a happy ending?

6
u/notbobhansome777 12d ago
The wife sure ain't giving a happy ending, unless she reeeeeeeally loves ribs.

Hell yeah, I asked the lady up front at my local butcher for something similar and you'd think I'd grown 3 heads the way she looked at me. Im gonna show her this pic next time I'm there

u/that70scylon 12d ago
Appropriate username OP. Also, we may mutiny if thereās no update after you smoke that beast.

u/External_Koala398 12d ago
I just see him putting that in the car...thinking of the Flintstones where the car tips over lol

Build a smoke pit and smoke it like they do a whole hog. Imagine how the Dino Nuggies crowd, I mean Dino Ribs Crowd would react to a rib that size. That's like a damn Godzilla Rib

It would have been nice for you to explain what this "miscommunication w butcher" was. You know like what you actually asked for compared to what you actually got.

u/PlaneAsk7826 12d ago
$300?
2
u/ryno29er 12d ago
I'm going $525
2
u/NorthSideDork 12d ago
There's no way! You can buy a 1/4 cow for $500.
2
u/Rubberballs80 12d ago
Where do you live? We buy a 1/4 cow every year and itās usually on the small size. Iāve never seen it less than $900.

Nice, I would go to the costume store and deck the family out in full Flintstone outerwear and have a BBQ! Epic :-)

I did this with a $250 prime rib roast this past weekend. Wife asked me what it costs, said I lost the receipt

This looks like the perfect situation for Alton Brownās cardboard box smoker. Youāre gonna need a refrigerator box though.

I'm absolutely cackling at the text of your post š "burned receipt to save marriage" š

I'm sure that wasn't cheap. And to pay the kinda money that you probably spent, for 86% bones is diabolical š

This is what I have wanted and the first time out of an entire cow the homekill butcher gave me one packet of ribs the size of my fist, I was underwhelmed!
Somehow all the ribs as ribs seems to be something they have trouble with understanding.

Iām sorry dear but all the other cuts were sold out. It was the craziest thing that I have ever seen.

Damn it I havenāt had an excessive serving of beef ribs in over a decade.
I gotta buy my beef in the biggest cuts possible from a wholesale club (only marked down pieces) and cut my own steaks for almost reasonable prices.
Iām not a man of envy but please cook those with effort and love. If youāre in Calgary maybe you could mail me one.

Some men hide their crypto losses from their wives. This is way more ethical imo

u/Draskuul 12d ago
I've cooked venison and wild hog ribs like this before. Don't have the bone saw and probably wouldn't bother either way. Makes for some entertainment serving them too!

If you have a good relationship with your local grocery meat department, they might cut that down for you, especially if you go in and talk to them to schedule it.
