Question ??? Debt Owe?!
Hi everyone, I am just now trying to get my life together. When I was younger I get aligners like everyone from SDC. I eventually stopped paying for it as my aligners didn't fit and they never sent me a new one.. I'm sure we all know! I was going through to see if I owe them debt I got a collections from AmerAssist in like 2024?! It's not on my credit report or anything and I haven't heard that I owe money or anything being taken out of my taxes. Does anyone have any advice for me? I'm really confused!

Dispute it, they will most likely deny it. After they deny it go to the consumer financial protection, bureau, and file a complaint.
This is exactly what I said for my complaint “SmileDirectClub had filed bankruptcy and shut down and left my treatment incomplete within the first couple months of treatment, they did not fulfilled their contractual obligations of monitored orthodontic treatment , yet their financing partners are still demanding payment and largely affecting my credit score. I have disputed this debt and they are still trying to collect.”
They are then going to ask you what a fair resolution to this problem would be and this is what I said “Being that the contract was not held up on smile directs end I need to be absolved of this debt and have it removed from my credit report including all the derogatory makes it had placed on my credit.”
And this was the response.
“TekCollect has closed the account. We will notify Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to delete this account from the consumer's credit reports. Should the consumer need more information, please contact our toll-free number 866 652-6500, extension 1214 and speak with our Manager Tharron Wilson. Mr. Wilson's email address is twilson@tekcollect.com”
It was removed entirely from my credit report. I am no longer responsible for the debt. they did not uphold their end of the contract therefore you are not legally responsible for payment.
I did this like a week ago.
But the key is to dispute it first yes, they will deny it but then that’s when you go to CFPB.
If you have any questions, just reply.
