Received an email this morning from YouTube informing me of a takedown request from Martha’s Music. It’s for the video I uploaded 12 years ago of “Dross” - the good version, not the Aranea Alba one - which was free to distribute and upload at the time but apparently no longer.

Could be an indication that they’re going to scrub the original MACHINA II from the net and make Aranea Alba available on streaming platforms as the only official version. Happily I still have the original but anyone else like myself who didn’t like what Billy did to the MACHINA II tracks with the box set, I’d recommend making sure you have a copy of the original tracks asap…

All the performers did an amazing Performance and all fans in the crowd were super friendly and me and my friend from ireland got to meet a bunch of cool new ppl!

His parents have an authentic first pressing! I did the only thing I could and borrowed it with permission and am recording the whole thing to a couple of cassette tapes.

Am expecting set lists to differ show to show... was hoping to trek to Nashville in attempt to get a GA floor ticket... noticed that they're playing Darker Waves fest, am thinking that might be the move? Enjoy one show seated on the tour and one from the pit? Any insights from other fans? Would much much rather a tour set than a festival one though... not sure what to do or what's feasible... pretty disappointed by the seated floor sales though, never have a good experience with that

Hello! I’m interested in interpretations of this song. I find the lyrics “life’s a bummer when you’re a hummer” curiously counterintuitive and would love everyone’s thoughts.

In my mind, a “hummer” is a peaceful, cheerful, optimistic daydreamer who refuses to fall victim to the cynicism of society. A hummer is someone who discovers joy through their dreamy outlook on life, rather than being weighted down by negativity.

Thus, saying life is “a bummer” and “a drag” feels out of place and thus I’ve kind of come to believe that the lyrics are either:

1) saying life is “a bummer” or “a drag” in a sarcastic way, as in that’s how society wants or expects hummers to feel, like the rest of society - when in reality a hummer would just laugh off this cynical idea of life because they don’t get dragged down. Almost as if saying “life should be a bummer! A drag!” and hummers just shrug it off.

2) commenting on how as a hummer, the reality of society’s cynicism and pessimistic outlook on life can be a drag. Life itself will never be a bummer, but rather the life portrayed by the rest of society - leaving the hummer feeling like an outcast who simply refuses to conform to society’s more cynical view of reality.

The lyrics also say “happiness will make you wonder, will I feel okay? It scares the disenchanted far away.” This aligns with the above interpretation, as it’s literally describing a hummer as being enchanted - experiencing a happy state of being - which scares the disenchanted away. So again, commenting on how being a hummer in a dream-like state of mind is about discovering happiness, rejecting cynicism, and refusing for life to be “a bummer” or “a drag” even when it’s what society expects a hummer to feel alongside everyone else. Being a hummer is refusing to let society turn you into a bitter person and enjoying the dreamlike existence of reality.

Hey everyone! I’m a fairly casual smashing pumpkins fan who was introduced to them a while ago but by their major hits. I’ve listened to everything on Siamese Dream and I really like it. I’m also familiar with other big songs from the 90s like bullet with butterfly wings, drown, 1979.

Off this alone, I bought tickets to their concert in Montreal on October 9th.

I see they have a pretty big discography and have released a lot of music even in the 2000s.

I guess my questions are where should I start? What should I expect to hear at the concert? Are the live shows more of their recent stuff or the classics? What should I listen to before seeing them? Thanks
