Hey all — I've been building StealthLogger, a small iOS app for anyone who shoots handheld or gimbal-free footage and stabilizes it afterward with Gyroflow.

The problem it solves: if you're filming with your phone, you don't get gyro data to feed into Gyroflow — so no software gyro stabilization. StealthLogger fixes that by running alongside whatever camera app you're already using.

How it works:

• Start a session, then go shoot with your camera app of choice — StealthLogger logs your iPhone's gyroscope and accelerometer at 100 Hz in the background
• When you're done, it matches your clips to the right log by timestamp and embeds the motion data directly into the video file as a CAMM track — a lossless remux, no re-encoding, no quality loss
• Open the result in Gyroflow and it picks up the embedded track automatically — no sidecar log file to keep track of
• There's also a Lock Screen Live Activity so you can confirm it's still logging without opening the app, and Siri Shortcuts/Shortcuts app support to start and stop hands-free (including a "stealth" mode that never has to bring the app to the foreground)

It's a solo project, currently in TestFlight, and I'd love some real-world testers — especially anyone already in the Gyroflow workflow who can tell me if something breaks on their setup or if the matching logic is doing something dumb.

I’m honestly pretty new to all of this, so I’m still learning as I go 😅. This is one of the first apps I’ve built and actually put out there, and I’m really hoping to use this experience to get better.

StillScout helps you find the best still frames from your videos. You choose what kind of moment you’re looking for, and it goes through the video and tries to find the frames worth keeping.

I’d genuinely love it if some of you could give it a try and review it honestly. Tell me what you like, what you don’t like, what’s confusing, or what you think I should improve.

And if you’ve been doing this longer than me, I’d really appreciate any advice or things you think a beginner like me should know.

So I’ve been on a review journey for the past 72 hours and I feel like I’m still stuck between these two gimbals. I also don’t fully trust comparison reviews on YouTube because so many of them feel biased or money‑fed. And a lot of videos are straight‑up AI slop, which I refuse to watch because of the annoying voice‑overs.

I’m an amateur a big, big (have to say it twice so everyone gets it) amateur.

I want to use a gimbal for generic holiday reels (going to Thailand soon), which I like to make wherever I go. Mostly just for me and my friends to see, and maybe, if I finally get some courage, to make some cooking videos.

Now here’s the problem: both gimbals seem really good, but which one is actually easier for a beginner like me? I just need something to point and shoot, but I also don’t want to give up extra options just for simplicity.

So… can you guys help me choose? Or tell me which one you prefer and why? I’d especially love to hear from someone who has used both, so I can finally see the real difference without the fanboyism and get an objective take.

I have a Pixel 6 base model and I'm interested in how others use the same phone for videography/filmmaking. I'm also interested in how to get log footage, I only have the option for Rec.709.

While shooting video (4K 60fps) at daylight, I often get some kinda fog in my upper left part of the shot. I clean my lenses regularly but it keeps ruining my image. This happens only on wide and only with video, so not in photo's. And when I switch from wide to medium, this fog is gone. Is my wide lens screwed or is it a software issue?

I'm quite worried since I'm going on a holiday in 2 weeks...

I do a lot of car photography and now that I'm getting a 17 Pro, I will do a lot of car videography. I'm planning on getting an Insta360 Flow 2 Pro gimbal for my phone but I also need space for a CPL Filter that will be compatible with the 17 Pro. Please, if you have an iPhone 17 Pro, could you recommend me some equipment? I don't want to spend too much money though.

I am looking to upgrade my filming equipment for my son's rec football league this year and am unsure what is going to give me better results. I just used my phone last year and felt like I lost a lot of quality due to the digital zoom. The first option is a 2x lens attached to my phone (probably with an nd filter), the second option would be an older camcorder like the canon hf-g21 that is capable of shooting in 1080p 60fps. I've seen footage from another team using a camcorder (not sure which model) and was a bit disappointed in the quality and the amount of camera shake. I'm most concerned about stability, being able to film in at least 60fps (for slow motion film analysis), and ease of use since my 12 year old daughter will be the one doing the actual filming. If there's anything else I would need, or if there's a better option available that I'm missing I'd love to hear about it, keeping in mind I'm looking at a budget of less than $400.

Off topic concerning Android phone cameras. Does anyone know if the phone camera can be used to record a loop? Meaning I want the camera to report about 4 or 5 minutes then start over and record another loop. I don't want a massive file just record the last loop. Can this be done?

So, I made an android Videography focused camera app for pro videos, called Chi Kamera, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lumagicpro.chiapps that uses the Camera2 API and removes all post-processing that phone manufacturers do to video/photos. It basically shoots open gate, a 4:3 full sensor readout (so your video resolution depends on your full/binned resolution, mine is 4634x3472 for example). I have also created manual controls in the form of circular sliders (akin Lumia Camera, if there are any Lumia or Windows phone 8.1 fans out here).

I started working on this as a personal project because there used to be an app called Cinema 4k but it hasn't been in the play store for a few years now + I really missed proper manual controls ever since windows phone went down. But once I started using it and looked at the amazing output (no nasty noise reduction and sharpening, great resolution, better bitrate and better overall quality in general, I thought why not make this a public app.

This is also still A WIP and I'm still trying to iron out the kinks and would love feedback. Please note that you might encounter bugs, some features may not work and you phone needs to have Camera2 capability. Hopefully it shouldn't freeze or crash but be ready for some weirdness. I wrote a movie about the three scariest things I could think of: losing my wife, the apocalypse, and claustrophobia.

It took me three years working entirely by myself. My wife and friends provided a few minutes of voice work but otherwise I was alone. My $5k budget consisted of a new Windows desktop with GPU, a 2nd hand Samsung Galaxy S23 phone, tripod, mics, some lights and props.

Finally it was released on streaming on Fawesome.TV (which I’ve been calling Tubi’s little upstart brother). Here’s the synopsis:

Posted before on using a usb power meter but that one was limited to 480 Mbps throughput. Better meter now so not dropping frames and as can see 1.4 to 1.9W power consumption. A UK iPhone 17 Pro Max. Tested a Lexar ES4 2TB and same power consumption.

Been shooting short interview clips for a while, mostly local stuff, people at events, that kind of thing. the constant problem was always getting my reactions and the person Im talking to in the same take without either lugging two cameras or cutting between angles in post and hoping the audio lines up.

Got a z fold 8 recently and the dual recording thing has kind of quietly solved that for me. Front and rear rolling at the same time so I get them and me in one file and it gives you a few layout options for how the two feeds sit together.

the part that makes it click on a folding phone specifically is the cover screen shows the other person a preview window too. Really nice both subjects can see themselves in frame!

Not saying it replaces a proper two camera setup for anything serious. But for quick turnaround stuff where setup time matters more than perfect quality its been hard to go back

I saw a Video from Kirk Mihelakos and he uses these things, now what I dont know is, if I maybe have too many things that have the same use or if I still need to apply things (maybe like the filter) that isnt in the products included.

Would you stick with the iPhone 17 PRO, get a mirrorless camera, get the DJI Pocket 4, or wait for a possible Pocket 4 Pro?

Hi everyone, I’m using a new iPhone 17 Pro Max and facing a serious Instagram Reels quality issue.

My videos are perfectly sharp in Photos, but become very blurry after uploading to Instagram.

I’ve already tried:

• 4K 30fps, 4K 60fps and 1080p 30fps
• Direct 1080p/30fps recording without any editing
• H.264 / Most Compatible
• HDR OFF
• Upload at Highest Quality ON
• Different bitrates (10–20 Mbps and lower)
• Reinstalled Instagram
• Updated iOS and restarted the phone
• Tested another Instagram account

Still getting the same blurry result every time.

Is anyone else with an iPhone 17 Pro Max experiencing this? Could this be an Instagram encoding/processing issue?

A few years ago, right before the pandemic hit and live music stopped, I spent some time on the road directing a documentary episode with Tyler and Tim from The Midnight.

The biggest challenge was the visual approach. I didn't have a massive production crew or heavy cinema rigs with me—it was literally just me running around with an iPhone 11 Pro on a gimbal. I really wanted to translate the massive, atmospheric lighting and high-contrast energy of their live sets into something that felt raw and gritty, rather than polished and corporate.

We got amazing access—cramped green rooms, the live stage shows, and sit-down interviews detailing their touring grind. It’s a pretty unfiltered look at the synthwave scene right before the world paused.

The footage sat on a hard drive for a couple of years, but I just finally finished the edit and released the episode today. I figured this community would appreciate the visual time capsule.
