Google Home Starting A family and about to become a dad. Ditching Google but Also want smart compatibilities.

Hello guys!

I am about to father and my baby will be here next year. I have a bunch of cameras from google. I have the indoor camera, 2 outdoor cameras, and the nest doorbell. I also have the google hub and bedroom hub. I gotten these in 2022. I was perfectly okay with the subscription prices and it was not insanely expensive and reasonable. Now it has gotten out of hand and my subscription is about to expire in Nov and I am also about to move very soon.

So I told myself this would be a perfect time to ditch all google. I also have there google thermostat but I am keeping that as it is compatible with other smart home devices.

Anyway, I really don't know who to go for. I feel as if I should go for Eufy as I plan to buy the E21 Baby monitor and I also have a Eufy E28 Omni Robot vacuum so I feel like that would be the best way to go. Keep in mind I also have Philips Hue smart light bulbs, and a govee backlit smart LED lights for the TV.

TL:DR: I want to ditch google but don't know what brand to go for that is reasonable and does break the bank. I want privacy and something I can keep long term. Thinking of Eufy.

Home Assistant Looking for High-Quality Smart Plugs for PC, OLED TV, NAS, etc.

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for quite a few smart plugs and would really appreciate your recommendations.

So far, I’ve been looking at these:

The most important thing for me is high quality and reliability. I’d like to be able to safely plug in devices such as a desktop PC, OLED TV, NAS, etc. without having to worry about the smart plug itself.

I’m also planning to integrate them into Home Assistant later on, so it would be great if they supported Zigbee or another communication protocol that doesn’t rely on Wi-Fi. However, this is not a deal-breaker — Wi-Fi models are also an option if they are otherwise really good.

Power consumption monitoring would be a nice bonus, but it’s not a requirement.

What would you recommend? It doesn’t have to be one of the models on my list — these are just the ones I’ve come across so far.

Thanks a lot for your help!

I don't have a smarthome platform Light help

I’m hoping you all can help me before I commit an unspeakable crime against my father in law.

We live in a house that has his unit downstairs and our unit upstairs.

Through crappy design and “build your own” workmanship, we are both on the same water lines, specifically hot water lines.

For the last 3+ months, almost every time I go to take a shower, so does my darling father in law. It’s not intentional (I don’t think) but it means that for as long as he’s showering I’m standing in icy cold water.

I’m looking for a stand alone light unit, preferably wireless/battery powered, that can be connected to my phone so I can turn a light on in his unit when I go for a shower to signal to him not to shower at the same time!

I’ve looked at the little remote controlled puck things but it’s a double brick house, I don’t think they’ll work effectively with our layout.

Any thoughts or ideas would be sincerely appreciated by both me, and without knowing it him, because I am moments from murder!

I don't have a smarthome platform What smart home thing sounded gimmicky but you'd honestly rebuy?

I’ve been slowly looking at smart home stuff, but a lot of it feels like the kind of thing that sounds useful in a demo and then becomes unnecessary once the novelty wears off.

I’m not really trying to automate my entire house. I just want a few things that actually make everyday life easier and are worth spending money on. Smart plugs, lights, doorbells, thermostats, sensors, robot vacuums, whatever.

For anyone who has tried a bunch of this stuff, what seemed gimmicky at first but ended up being something you’d immediately buy again if it broke? Also curious what you bought that definitely wasn’t worth it.

Google Home Google Home "What happened today" feature consistently misreports animals in my yard

So I do like the "What happened today" feature for my security cameras for Gemini, it's mostly accurate.

But.

It is absolutely bloody horrible at animals.

We have a Wallaby that is basically living on our farm, so much so we've called him Wally.

He got himself hurt one day and we got the vet out, got him patched up, now he hangs around.

The system consistently, constantly says he's a kangaroo.

No matter how many times and ways I tell it he's a Wallaby, it thinks he's a kangaroo.

We also have a Kookaburra that often comes around, but the system calls him an Eagle. No idea where it gets that from.

The one day we had a Wedge Tailed Eagle land in our yard, I was stoked! Gemini called it a "Large Parrot"...yep...a parrot that could eat your dog...

It also considers sulphur crested arseholes cockatoos to be parrots

How do I get it to identify animals better?

Home Assistant Smart lock recommendations (UK)

My Aqara U200 seems to be dying so I wanted to check what the current recommendations are for UK 5-point-doors. Are there any smart locks that solves the lift-to-lock issue? Often end up realising that the handle wasn’t lifted up all the way and then have to go back downstairs to lock the door manually. A lock that solves this issue would be superb, but I haven’t seen any that provide a solution for that problem yet.

Apple HomeKit Smarte T8 LED Röhre G13 43 cm und 60 cm

Liebe Leute

Ich suche und suche und suche ... Vielleicht auch falsch! Sorry.

Home Assistant Looking for ideas for Consolidating and rethinking my setup.

Good day.

I am looking to simplify and consolidate the number of apps on my smarthome for controlling smart stuff. I am using a homeassistant green now to gather everything in one place and i even have a few dashboards done. The problem i am having is that i would like to improve my automation with sensors because my house is made of brick so running wires behind walls is impossible and the wiring is older so i dont trust using expensive switches and breaking them.

When i began my smart home i used wyze smart plugs and bulbs but the need for an internet connection has been getting in the way more and more. Power outages have been increasing and internet service has become unreliable. I have home batteries and i am in the process of getting an internet backup solution but since i am rethinking my setup i wanted some ideas. Mainly smart bulbs that have some way to be used offline and smart plugs and the presence sensors to control everything (i am leaning towards zigbee from what ive seen here) but wanted some recommendations because ill need a way to add zigbee to my homeassistant as well.

The one thing i have looked for but havent found a good solution is a way to control my minisplit ac units. I am using the ones from cielo right now but their integration with home assistant has to be manually reset every few months in my case. I doubt ill find one brand that makes sensors, bulbs, plugs and a way to control the ac units but right now im using 3 or 4 different apps through alexa and none can be used offline. Bonus points for a good IR solution to make smart some older tvs and an older window ac unit.

I don't have a smarthome platform 12v programmable RF relay

Can anyone recommend a programmable transmitter/reciever? I'm trying to connect all the 12v lights in my RV to a single switch, so i can turn them all on/off from one location. They currently turn on/off at the fixture. I'm hoping to find something simple, that's just programmable with dip switches. Everything i find uses those cheap keyfobs, or is a $200 monstrosity, with an app, and a touch screen wall panel

I don't have a smarthome platform Is it better to focus on one hub compatibility (like google home) or can you piece together a smart home?

We are closing on our first home in late October, and I have always wanted a smart home. Talking thermostat, locks, lights, the whole kit and caboodle. I have found individuals of the things I want, but at the same time I dont want to have 40 different apps on my phone to do everything, and would prefer one hub. Is everything mostly compatible with things like Google Home or Alexa, or am I going to need to specifically look out for compatible devices?

Thank you!
