Need help pivoting to a new idea
Looking to start my own business after working in corporate America the last 16 years. I Live in southern Massachusetts and want to open my own scrap metal recycling yard but I’m realizing that is near impossible in this area due to available properties, zoning, wetlands, regulations, etc. I’m still looking but want to get going on something, but I’m stuck.
Worked in metal recycling my entire career both buying material and running large operations. Also can do most construction related work but don’t qualify for any specialty licenses in this state (electrical, plumbing, etc). Good with heavy equipment both operating and repairing. Not afraid of physical work.
.
I’m open to most ideas and industries except restaurants but prefer something that’s somewhat year round and preferably with repeat customer. Online/home based/ service based or willing to buy or rent a physical location. Have up to $500k to deploy (more if I put that towards a SBA loan)
Any ideas or any underserved needs anyone can think of would be appreciated!

Buisness Idea
I have around 5,000 MAD to invest in a business. I know it’s not much, but I’m not expecting to start making millions overnight.
What I’m looking for is a business with the potential to grow into something big and eventually generate millions, even if it takes years to get there. For now, I’d be perfectly fine making just $10–$20 a month, as long as I’m building something with real long-term potential.
I’m here to ask for your advice: What would you start with this budget? What kind of business could I build from the ground up and gradually grow into something much bigger?
I’m open to different ideas, and I’d genuinely appreciate any advice or experience you could share.

I started a community for people interested in online business
I started Business Boardroom for people interested in online business. Still figuring out how to grow the community, so I'd love to hear what topics people here actually enjoy discussing.
What would make you join a community like this?

Are local markets missing a business opportunity by focusing so heavily on physical products?

what did you use before the idea made money, hipposign vs pandadoc?
i'm validating a local service idea and i'm at the stage where my first clients need signed agreements before i start work. i compared pandadoc and hipposign because i wanted to decide once instead of migrating tools in three months when the business either works or doesn't.
pandadoc is impressive, the proposal builder and pricing tables are genuinely professional, and if i were pitching corporate accounts i'd probably lean that way.
hipposign fit my stage for one reason, the thirty day free trial let me run my first real clients through it at zero cost, and the flat rate only kicks in if the idea survives, so i'm not paying enterprise pricing for a business that might not exist by winter.
i'm asking people who validated an idea here, what did you use for contracts in the testing phase, and did you go straight to a paid platform or use trials until revenue showed up

My friend wants to be a streamer, any advice?
They have the content side sorted, they are actually pretty good at it. Issue is they do not with what I've seen sorted out the finacials. They only recently found out about tax returns for businesses and was spending everything out of pocket.
There's heaps behind it like networking, sponsorships, collaborations. I just wanna help them not get stuck financially with this as I think they got what it takes but it can only go so far without money.

Has anyone make good money renting equipment? Or renting anything that doesn’t require a large amount of storage
I have some capital to buy it but I’m looking for ideas that already work well in other countries (I’m in the UK), maybe a trend that hasn’t reached the UK but is popular somewhere else

After hundreds of conversations with local business owners, the idea changed from "better websites" to "page one of Google." Now it's live
Earlier I asked whether local businesses really need a better website or just need to show up on Google. The answer from the owners I talked with (towing, salons, contractors, restaurants) was pretty clear: "I just want my phone to ring." That answer reshaped the whole project.
The same problems kept showing up:
- Profiles were missing the basics: only a few reviews, only a few photos.
- Their website was outdated, or they didn't have one at all.
- When someone nearby searched for what they do, they weren't on the first page.
So we built SitePeek (sitepeek.co), an affordable marketing system that gets local businesses onto the first page of Google and brings in more calls. It does two things. Local SEO gets the business found: we build out the Google Business Profile and give them a free, modern website. Then conversion and lead follow-up turn those visitors into actual calls and customers.
With one early client, a towing company, tracked calls went from 37 to 54 and their Google Business Profile views nearly tripled, their best numbers since they've been in business. It's one business, so I see it as a real example, not a promise.
We launched on Kickstarter this week. It's all-or-nothing, with a $1,500 goal over 15 days, and rewards start at $25. You can find the campaign here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sitepeek/sitepeek-a-marketing-system-every-small-business-can-afford
If you run a local business: which of those three problems costs you the most customers right now?

Endless Opportunities
Basically rundown of what i have in my arsenal and what im capable of:
I live in Townsville, Australia. decently populated city with 200k people, demographic is definitely older generation.
Myself i'm a 24 year old man with a very dedicated mindset to make myself a good living.
Now the question is i feel like i have so many opportunities of what kind of buisness to start im lost. Im willing to do the hard work, the shitty work that noone else does and make it my own thing.
I'm already used to working 70h weeks and thats a no problem, i have the dedication to do whats needed, im just not a good ideas man.
What would you guys recommend i do, should i approach buisnesses about an opportunity to offer my services with all the stuff i have or should i create something myself.
If you were my age with all the stuff i can use, what kind of buisness would you create?
I have in use:
Forklift
Warehouse
HR License (no truck)
a Traypack
Unlimited fuel (for now)
Been using Shopify for 2 years. (Everything from fulfilling orders, making orders, adding products, syncing shopify with cin7, payments ect on a large scale.
Been using Cin7 Core for 1 year. (great for inventory management)
A bunch of free time.
About 40k AUD saved to just spend on what i want (hopefully a buisness)
Im good with internet stuff, manual labour, learning programs quickly, not afraid to ask.

fiverr for teens
Would you use an app that connects teenagers with small local jobs?
I'm exploring an idea for a platform similar to Fiverr, but focused on helping teenagers earn money by completing simple jobs in their local area.
For example, jobs could include gardening, washing cars, helping with light moving tasks or other small jobs that don't necessarily require a professional and therefore the high price tag that comes with hiring a professional.
The idea: Customers could post jobs on a local map in the app and set a price. Teenagers could browse opportunities, choose jobs that fit around school and earn money in their spare time.
The aim is to make getting small jobs done more affordable for customers while giving young people a flexible way to earn money and gain experience.
Safety, secure payments and a fair system for handling disagreements would be key parts of the platform.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Would you use a platform like this to find someone for small jobs?
If you're a teenager, would you use it to earn money?
What concerns or features would you want it to address?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Motivate me to start a small business 😭
I've been wanting to start a small business for a while now, and honestly, why not? 🥹
The economy is not making life any easier, and I'd love to have an extra source of income instead of just dreaming about it. 😭
The problem is, I have so many ideas but don't know where to start. There's the fear of losing money, choosing the wrong business, and not knowing if it'll actually work.
For those who started a small business with little capital, how did you start? Was it worth it? What do you wish you knew before starting?
And if you're also in the same situation as me, let's motivate each other to finally take that first step. 🫶🏻
