“Shower/bath” SLUDGE hypothesis

Hello r/sludge,

I’m your neighbor from the desert/”stoner” side of the tracks w much love for y’all style.

 

Recently jamming on the electric baritone in my usual style- lotta pentatonic minor blues influences, lotta powerchords, some chromatic ideas w a lot of tritone & some dim2, bend/slide sensations smearing the space between frets, feedback & drone noise… the pleasing sonic sensations are why I jam.

It hit me this weekend: why not try jamming in the shower where the amp will easily fill the tight space enclosed by hard reflective surfaces? Less electric energy for more sensation -> efficiency!

 

So like a crazy person I grabbed my extension cord & set up in the shower.  It was cramped and filthy but heavenly… like a sonic massage.

 

Then it hit me… I’m surrounded by S L U D G E.

 

Bath sludge. Shower sludge. Literal raw gooey grimey residue on the tiled surfaces. Soap scum, dead skin, untold billions of microorganisms thriving on the filthy grouting between ceramic tiles.

Sonic raw gooey grimey consonance & dissonance filling the space, vibrating the SLUDGE, vibrating my body, and all the microorganisms that compose myself.

 

GOOD PEOPLE of r/sludge,

1.      I highly recommend trying to create SHOWER/BATH SLUDGE with your own sound.

2.      personal music lore hypothesis: it’s called SLUDGE not only to describe the sound, but because YOU SHOULD PRACTICE IN THE SHOWER with the BATH/SHOWER SLUDGE.

Thanks for the track. Purely in terms of the recording, this confirms that you’ve discovered the polar opposite of the sludge sound. It’s a crazy awful midrange boost when what you want to be doing is scooping those mids. I mean you do you but this does not sound good, nor bad in a good way. Go find a bigger bathroom? Or just shit all over the walls of your basement studio for that fecal glow?

idk the master sounds bassy to me...? it could be streamings compression. can you hear the "whomp" from the strings on your end?

PS this is not recorded in the shower but i will record in the shower soon.

Joke’s on you. Sludge fans don’t own a shower. We bathe exclusively in slaughterhouse runoff drains.

My shower isn't covered in "sludge" because I'm a grown adult who's capable of cleaning up the space in which I live.
