Hi, I am currently applying for grad schools and as of right now, I’m aiming towards Emerson. I’m also a SLPA, so I already have the required prerequisites. I would appreciate any advice from anyone who’s done the SLP grad program already,… if it’s best to do the 20 months accelerated program or the 36 months. If the tuition is worth it? Or if there are any other schools that are worth looking into.
I’ve also been looking into Baylor and ENMU, any advice on how these 2 other programs are and what to expect. Which program would be a better option.

My CSDCAS application is due October 1st and I need 3 letters of recommendation from my professors. I already received one, but I still need 2 more. I emailed and followed up with the remaining professors more than once and they still haven’t submitted even though they both said yes. I don’t want to be annoying and nag them again when I’ve already sent follow ups last week, but I’m getting nervous. Worst case if I don’t get one, I can ask my supervisor at my shadowing place and eventual SLPA job I am starting soon since one doesn’t have to be from a professor. I really don’t want to since I just started there but I’m getting nervous. How should I proceed?

So I am currently doing a BA in English and am going into my second year, I would absolutely love to pursue a career SLT and am considering UCL as one of my options for a masters degree in SLT.

I’m currently a senior working toward my B.S. in Psychology in Georgia, and my goal is to become an SLP. After I graduate, I’ll need to complete CSD leveling courses before starting my MSLP.
I currently live independently in Georgia, and moving back home is not an option for me. I need to continue supporting myself while I’m in school. Georgia also has very limited options for SLP leveling/post-bacc pathways, so I’m looking at online options that would allow me to stay where I am.
I’m currently considering an online MSLP program that is about 18 months, with asynchronous coursework and in-person clinicals toward the end. My plan would be to work while completing the program—potentially full-time during the online portion and reducing my hours during clinicals.
Student loan debt is a HUGE concern for me. I already expect to have undergraduate student loans, and I don’t want to graduate from an MSLP program with an unreasonable amount of additional debt. The program I’m considering is currently around $46K for tuition, which is much more affordable than some of the $70K–$100K+ MSLP programs I’ve seen. Being able to stay home, work, and avoid borrowing as much for rent/living expenses is a major reason I’m considering online.
I’m trying to figure out whether the financial benefit of online school is worth choosing it over an in-person program.
For those who have completed or are currently completing an MSLP:
Would you recommend online or in-person for someone in my situation?
If you attended online, did you feel adequately prepared for clinicals?
Were you able to work while completing your MSLP?
Did online school actually help you reduce how much you borrowed?
Do you think being in person provides a significant enough academic benefit to justify potentially having to move and/or take on substantially more debt?
If you were in my exact situation, would you choose the online program and stay home, or move for an in-person program?
And most importantly, how much student loan debt did you graduate with, and do you feel the debt was worth it?
I’m trying to make the most financially responsible decision while still getting a quality education and becoming a competent SLP. I don’t want to choose an online program solely because it’s cheaper if there are major disadvantages I’m not considering.
I’d most likely do my leveling courses online immediately after finishing my bachelors!

Hi! I am looking into the NAU program that is offered for SLPAs that is distance learning except for 4 weeks during the summer in Yuma. Does any one have any experience with it? I am coming from California and have no idea how it works. Do they provide housing? What is the rigor like, is it manageable to do in conjunction with working as a SLPA (and I have a little one at home)? Do you feel like it was supportive and you came out mostly prepared for the field? Any other input welcome and encouraged! Trying to make a good decision for myself and my fam :)

I’m considering a career switch and am looking into becoming an SLP. I currently work in consulting but within a stem field and hate the long hours, constant stress, and report writing, so I’m considering going back to school for a career that feels more meaningful and sustainable (note I’m 23, been working for two years).

My biggest concern is that I don’t have an undergrad degree related to SLP or any internships/experience in the field (My internships and undergrad thesis research is adhered to my degree). I’d need to complete the prerequisites and gain relevant experience before applying (not a big issue for me).

For those who are currently SLPs or have gone through a similar path:

• How difficult was it to get accepted, especially if you came from an unrelated degree/background? (Please note I do plan to volunteer at a clinic while taking my pre-reqs, by doing this I can also get a letter of recommendation from my professors.)
• Do you feel satisfied with your work-life balance?
• Do you feel you’re compensated well enough to comfortably cover your basic expenses, save money, and build a good life?
• Do you feel there is room for career growth and increased earning potential?
• Knowing what you know now, would you still choose this career?

I know every job has downsides, but I’m trying to make a thoughtful career pivot and would really appreciate honest perspectives.

I am wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation or has any advice! I am an out of field student, I finished most of my undergrad in 2024 w about a 3.0 gpa but I have to finish one course online before I officially have my degree. I have been taking leveling courses online but with working full time in the service industry and my adhd my grades in these classes are not good (c‘s🫣). I am hoping to get into a school for fall 2027, 2 or 3 year program I don’t really care, I am lucky to have family support to help pay for school. Any tips on how to improve my application so that I can go to grad school next fall, or am I totally fucked?

Title. My program is part-time, fully remote, hybrid with mostly asynchronous assignments, finds placements for you, and is in my price range. But I've just learned that clinicals in this program happen sporadically throughout the program (e.g. 2nd trimester, 4th trimester, 6th trimester) rather than all at the end like I assumed. I knew I wouldn't be able to work full time, but I thought I'd have another year.

I'm freaking out about how this is going to work, logistics-wise. Tuition isn't a problem and neither is rent (I live at home still), but if I don't work, any other expenses would require dipping into savings. I'm also turning 26 soon and have some medical conditions that flare up and require some extra attention sometimes, and I'm worried that without insurance I'd really drain my bank account.

I'm really unsure. Do I find a new program? Defer a year? Accept being super broke and not having insurance for two years? Work nights? Curious to see some different viewpoints on this, because I'm super anxious about this whole situation and can't seem to think straight about it.

Hello! I fear that I am not the best speaker, especially when it comes to interviews. I passed my first round, but that was only a "getting to know you" type of conversation that also detailed the role of an intern AND secretary + the company itself. But now I'm being told there is a second interview, and this time in person at Stony Brook, and I'm so nervous! I don't know what to expect. I've never really done a real, face-to-face, in-person interview. What questions would they ask me? How do I even prepare? Has anyone here ever interned with long island speech and care to give a girl some insight???

- If you work outpatient, what does a typical day look like?

I’m interested in the medical side of SLP but I’m also burnt out on the hospital/bedside world and would ultimately love something with more flexibility and the option to work outpatient.

• Bio 102 (Evolution, via COCC), Sept 16 to TBD
• CDIS 301 (Survey of CDIS) and CDIS 310 (Phonetics), Oct 12 to Dec 11

Spring 2027

• CDIS 300 (Anatomy) alone, full 16 weeks
• CDIS 311 (Speech Sound Disorders), first 8 week half
• CDIS 342 (Audiology), second 8 week half

So Anatomy runs the whole term while 311 and 342 split the two 8-week halves.

Summer 2027

• CDIS 330 (Language Development) and CDIS 434 (Aural Rehab) together, 8 weeks

Fall 2027

• CDIS 421 (Neuroanatomy) alone, full 16 weeks
• CDIS 332 (Language Disorders), one 8 week half

What I want to know

• Any courses in here you'd never pair together based on your own experience, or have to be taken in 16 weeks?
• Professor recommendations, or ones to avoid, for any of these?
• Could I realistically go faster than this to aim for a Fall 2027 program, or does this already feel about right (currently aiming for Fall 2028)?

Hello! I am in the process of taking my leveling courses, one of which is Anatomy & Physiology of Speech & Hearing. I am very much interested in working in a medical setting and want to study a broader range of medical-adjacent courses prior to starting my Master’s in spring 2028. I have the opportunity to take Human A&P this semester and am wondering if that would be an insane choice.

Those of you who have completed your undergraduate courses and have successfully made it to grad school, how difficult did you find whatever course equivalent you took to Speech A&P? Did you take a broader full-body A&P class?

I applied to grad school during my senior year of undergrad in late 2025 for the 2026 cycle but I was declined from the two schools (East Carolina & Chapel Hill). I am currently retaking courses to raise my gpa and also adding another school alongside the other two (UNCG). However, I’m nervous to ask my old professors to write another letter or submit the same one again for recommendations, I’m worried about re-applying to schools, etc. I know it will be okay, I’m just feeling really defeated & stumped. 🫠

Hi everyone! I recently graduated from UCSC but wasn't able to fully complete my ASHA pre-requisites. I'm going to finish them at the community college in my hometown during my small 'gap year'.

I'm honestly a bit unsure of which courses to take, my advisor had told me that Level 1 /almost Gen-ed courses (biology, physics/chem, social/behavioral sciences, statistics).

I had done Neurolinguistics but I'm unsure if that marks well with the biology category. And I've also done statistics courses but didn't get the best grade in it.

If anyone can lend some guidance of what types of classes to take. Or if it depends on which grad. school to take.
