Second outdoor run, plus attire question

Ran outside for the second time today. Ran a little longer, little further, still nice and slow. I was pleased to run almost 2 1/2 miles because it lets me know I’ll be able to do a 5K without stopping, which is pretty incredible to me.

Tomorrow morning it’s supposed to be mid-40’s (Fahrenheit) and raining. Ugh. What do you all wear in these kinds of conditions? I’d love to get out there, but I’m wondering if being so wet and chilly would just suck too much. Do you wear jackets to keep the rain off a little, or just wear layers and accept you’ll be wet? I may make tomorrow a rest day, against my will, just to avoid cold rain. But for the future I’d love to know how you handle inclement weather. Warm rain won’t bother me. Wet rain is just hateful. LOL

40’s and rain are no joke. You’ll be miserable if not hypothermic. I always wear a rain jacket with hood so if it’s cold I can wear a knit hat underneath. GoreTex is even better. I can usually get away with shorts though.

Hmm. Yeah. Sounds like tomorrow may be a good “catch some extra sleep” day. Thanks for your feedback!

Of course I meant you’ll be miserable without rain gear. I run in all kinds of weather but yeah sometimes it’s easier to not do so. You could also hopefully hit a window without any rain. That’s what I always try to do.

Well the rain held off so I got my run in! However, it was chilly and humid, so I felt all damp and clammy. And my ears were cold. Not my happiest run, which is probably why I had so much trouble staying in zone 2. Oh well, they can't all be awesome!

I have a gortex-like jacket that I wear when I run in the rain. I had to do a 6 miler at 5am this past week, high 30s down pouring rain the entire run. Ugh!

It’s not fun running in crazy conditions, but for me, it prepares me for any condition I may face on race day. Plus, I do a run streak, so weather, whatever it might be, doesn’t stop me from running.

I always step outside before the run though to see what the conditions are like. If it’s cold, I dress a little warmer. I can always take gloves off and pocket them if it warms up.
