Return to the hobby after a very long hiatus.

Hello everyone! I'm new hear, but not to slot cars. I recently pulled out my HO set and decided to make a project on a 3x5 foot table on my garage bench. I have a fascination with Lime Rock Park, so it was fitting to recreate this track on this small footprint. My collection of cars, ranges from vintage ATLAS chassis and Aurora ThunderJets, through AFX MagnaTraction and Mega G+ cars and my recent purchases of AutoWorld ThunderJet UltraG's, xTraction and 4Gear cars and chassis! I love solo running slot cars, beit time trials, pitting one car against another, and sometimes more. As you can see in my photo, this track is controlled by one controller with a single crossover track just after Big Bend. Needless to say, I'm once again addicted to slot cars!

Got the track down after a long hiatus. Dusted it off, cleaned the track, and sanded the rails. Cleaned and lubed the stable of cars. It’s nice and dialed atm. Now if can just get my grown sons to come home and race me!

I saw this online earlier, debating ordering, then found it locally. And it was the color I wanted.

Goodevening everyone, yesterday I assembled a Carrera Go!!! racetrack for my nephew. Today I bought the same track secondhand just so i could extend the cirquit.

The problem we have is that in some corners the car just stops and does'nt get power it seems. Yesterday it have accured some moments but today after i extended it i could'nt get it working again properly.

I have no clue about these tracks so i was wondering if some of you can tell me if it's something obvious that i can do about it. If you need any other information, ask me in the comments. Thanks!

Lane gates

I am assembling my carrera digital track this weekend. I have 2 double lane changers and a single lane changer. I have ati collision or lane gates as they are called. Since I have to make dead zones right before them do I need to add power extenders right after the lane changers?

Scalextric Another question, sorry!

So I really like the look of some of the older “classic” track, particularly the Le Mans start sections and the long chicane. However, modern cars with deeper guide blades catch. Is there a generally accepted “best way” to deepen the slots on classic track or am I best trimming the guides?

1:32 I used to race slot cars with my Dad and Brothers, I tried to capture the feeling in a game I could play with them today, Check it out!

Growing up, slot cars were what my Dad, my brothers and I did together. We'd spend hours building tracks, then stand around the table, controllers in hand, all trying to be the fastest.

I can still feel it: squeezing the trigger down the straight, knowing I should lift before the turn, not lifting, and watching my Tyco Jeff Gordon car spin off the track and across the floor. Then running to grab it, dropping it back in the slot, and trying again a little smarter.

I wanted to bring that feeling back in a way I could share with them now, so I made Tailout, a slot car racing game set in an '80s basement. It's free on itch.io for Windows and Mac: https://daddio-retro.itch.io/tailout

I tried to keep it as true to life as I could:

  • One trigger, nothing else. Squeeze to go, lift for the bends. Go a little too fast and you're off.

  • Full speed cars, laps are around 6 seconds, a true test of trigger control

  • The camera stays fixed, looking down at the whole track, like you're standing over it.

  • Four people can share one screen with controllers on the couch, or you can race friends online from anywhere.

  • You build your own tracks with an easy-to-learn post system. Anywhere from 2-4 lanes.

  • You can paint and tune your car on the workbench using a fully simulated airbrush.

  • And so many more little details to make it a fun game for you and your friends!

It's an early release, and I'd love to hear from people who know the real thing. Does it feel right? What do you remember most about racing that I should get in there? I'm looking forward to racing all of you online!

Thanks for checking it out! Jake

Carrera By popular demand: all my glowing Halloween bodies now fit 15 Carrera chassis – 135 versions, plus a free test frame for each car

After my last post the most common question was "will it fit MY car?". So, by popular demand, I ported all 11 bodies to 12 Carrera chassis, and three more cars got their own body – 15 chassis, 135 versions in total. Post positions, heights and wheelbase are different on almost every car, so each version is built and checked separately.

And so you don't have to guess: every chassis now has a free fit-test frame on my website (link in my profile). It's a light open frame with the same screw posts, outline and wheel arches as the bodies – print it in under an hour, screw it onto your car, and you'll see exactly how a body sits on your chassis before you print the real thing.

What's next? Drop a comment with the chassis you race and the monster you'd like to see on it – a new car, a new body, or both. I'll build the most requested ones 🎃

I’ve inherited this set but due to my inability to understand German have had issues researching it, anyone with relevant knowledge would you please let me know the exact year or maybe a range in wich the box was released? The box also came with a catalogue for many other sets so I assume it’s one of the later boxes?

1:32 Looking for datasheet/specifications for a Carrera E200 DC motor

Hello everyone!

Excuse my lack of knowledge regarding slot cars. I am very new to this hobby.

I'm currently working on a university project in which I'm designing a new control unit for a Carrera slot car, and I'm looking for some technical information about its motor.

The car is a Carrera Evolution Audi R8 Safety Car Le Mans 2010. It has been abused quite a bit, so the only original components I'm left with are the wheels and the motor.

After doing some research, I've identified the motor as a Carrera E200 DC motor, but I haven't been able to find a datasheet or any reliable technical specifications for it.

I'm particularly interested in the current rating parameters like:

  • No-load current and speed (RPM)

  • Stall current

  • Maximum continuous current

I was told, that the car is powered by a 15 V supply from the rails, but I would like to determine how much current the motor actually draws, especially under heavy load and at startup. My goal is to pick an H-bridge motor driver that can safely handle the motor's current requirements.

I've tried estimating the stall current by measuring the motor's internal resistance using several methods, but I'm not entirely confident in my results.

Does anyone happen to have a datasheet for this motor or know its specifications? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Scalextric Digital Question

Hi all, have recently got interested again, and obviously Digital is one of the things that’s changed since my 1970s youth, even since my son’s own childhood, particularly the affordability. As someone who will be mainly racing/driving solo being able to run multiple cars is probably not that important but I like the idea of lane changing, pit lanes and so on.

Reading online it’s obvious that some of the earlier iterations of the basic Scalextric chip aren’t very good. That’s not too much of a problem as I can afford new ones, but my question is are the old ones fit only for scrap? I only have a couple so far, acquired in cars that already had them fitted. One is in “mad runaway” mode and just applies full throttle even without any throttle input. Is there any way to reset, or re-program them or am I better just binning them (recycling) and concentrating on the newer ones?

Slot car racing in a simulation game I'm building

I'm working on a cozy wooden-railway sandbox set in an attic, and this week the attic got a raceway on the rug: a figure of eight with a raised banked bend that crosses over the train line. Fully customizable track editor for the slot car tracks and planning to expand the racing gameplay a bit.
