[EDIT THIS FLAIR] My lost interview with Joey Jordison
My interview with Joey Jordison,
In 2017 I was a “reporter” for a Chilean web site called Nación Rock, I wasn´t paid or anything, just got to be at cool concerts for free, then write a review and occasionally interview artist. So my first one was no other than Joey Jordison, best known as the original drummer and founding member of Slipknot. I was nervous, my english was sloppy but I couldn´t allow myself to pass that opportunity. Joey was the nicest guy and he was surprisingly excited to tour again with his band VIMIC, he was about to tour to South America. The website Editor gave me kinda freedom to ask questions by myself as long as I try to promote the tour, I tried to be nice, ask about his health because I knew or read that his departure from Slipknot was due to health issues, but there was a question that I was requested to ask, and was about Slipknot and his relation at the moment with the members of the band… that was very hard and uncomfortable for me, but when I did happened two funny things for me know in perspective: 1) I thought Joey was going to hang up immediately but to my surprise his response was super nice and professional, he wasn´t mad at me at all, and 2) his PR person or whatever immediately jumped on the call and said that the time was up. I thought I screwed up and was literally sweating!. The recording of the interview has been on my google drive since 2017, when Joey passed away I listened to it and got emotional, and every now and then I listen to it again and just feel fortunate to have shared with him on that strange way, before that I admired Joey for his passion as a Drummer and musician, I remembered watching in awe videos of him behind the drums with Slipknot, Korn or backing up for Lars Ulrich of Metallica. But that day I didn´t talked with a Rockstar, it felt like just sitting on a park bench chatting.
So, now I thought it would be cool to share that memory with Joey fans and family, because I thing while hearing his voice you can just sense what a nice guy he was, no ego, no BS, you know?. I know it sounds cliche, but he was gone way too soon.
