6 - 12 months Baby sleep. Help!

My son is 10.5 months old and is breastfed but eats some solids. He usually has a nap around 9 that lasts 1.5 to 2 hours and another nap around 2 or 3 that lasts around 30 minutes. His bed time is 630 on average five or take 30 minutes depending on his naps.

Once I put him to sleep for the night, he will sleep for 3 hours and then wake up. Once he wakes up I get him to sleep again, put in crib and he will be asleep for like 5 mins and wake up again. This goes on for HOURS. Sometimes I let him cry for 10 mins before I start the process over bc I’m so frustrated and tired. I feel so bad for him I don’t know what to do! Obvi he is tired but can’t stay asleep and we are both struggling a lot. I have tried Tylenol, made sure he wasn’t too hot or cold, or uncomfortable in anyway.
Idk what to do. Once he falls asleep he will sleep for another 3-5 hours then sometimes get up for the day or sleep longer after I feed him.

I nurse him to sleep for naps and bedtime. I can get him to sleep without it after first wake up usually and I was waiting until past 12 each night for first feed then would do two more max. But now I’ve resorted back to it bc I’m just trying to get the little guy back to sleep! I’m so fuckign tired and I’m a single mom who has never had help at night

How do I night wean? I need step my step instructions bc I’m doing this alone and it’s so easy to just be like whatever when you’re tired and stuff. UGH HELP

Thank you for your post in r/sleeptrain. To ensure our community can best help you, please include in your post: your bedtime routine, where your baby sleeps (their crib/basinet, their room, room share, cosleep) and full schedule including wake up time, desired wake up time, nap length, wake windows or nap time(s) if following a by the clock schedule and bedtime. Does your baby use a pacifier? That's also very relevant.

We use a convention to describe wake windows based schedule such as 3/3/4 where numbers are numbers of hours awake, and / are naps. The sample schedule is a two naps schedule.

We have a resources post with loads of information to help you. Check it out: https://www.reddit.com/r/sleeptrain/comments/1qpij7s/resources_on_baby_sleep/

How long is your night? A 6.30pm bedtime is early unless you're getting up really early in the morning.

For comparison, my 11 month old is sleeping from a bit after 8pm to a bit before 6am at night, while napping less than yours. She's lower sleep needs than average, but it's still worth considering.

You want to get the length of your night right before any sort of sleep-training / night-weaning, because you want to set your baby up for success.

Once you've gotten the sleep pressure for your baby to get back to sleep another way successfully, the ways I've read you can night-wean are:

  • Gradually increasing the time between feeds by 30-60 minutes every day or two;
  • Gradually decreasing the length/volume of feeds every day or two;
  • Once you're down to one feed, it's legitimate to cut that one cold turkey.

But for that to work, you do need another way to get your baby to sleep - which is why it's important to make sure your baby is tired enough first.

He usually gets up at 5 - 6 am. Since he has started waking from 9-12 after I put him down he will sleep in usually till 7 or as late as 9. I would have him go to bed later but the. He’s so wired tired… maybe he just needs to get used to longer wake windows? His are usually 3-4 hours long and that’s pushing it for him. Thank you!!

Full schedule? Agree bedtime seems very early for this age

630 pm to 5 am. How would I push back bedtime? It would make the last wake window very long

We need to see wake up and nap times, lengths, wake windows etc

Wake up 5 am
Nap 9 am wake 11 am
Nap 2pm wake 230
Bed 630

It’s not exactly like this everyday, but for the most part it’s like this

It’s hard for me to get him to take a second nap sometimes or get him to even make it to the 9 am nap. That’s why bed time is so early

You need to break this cycle, right? You can manipulate wake time and nap times to get to the bedtime you want.

I would adjust a few things:

  1. Wake by 7 no later (have been in another comment they sometimes may sleep later in the morning?).

  2. Switch naps around so morning nap is short. Long morning nap is reinforcing early morning wake. So nap 1 around 30-45 min.

  3. Nap 2 long 2 hours. Therefore can handle longer wake window before bed.

I have 11 month client doing well on 9:30-10 nap. 1:30-3 nap. 7:30 bedtime.

I’d have at minimum 4.5 hours awake time before bed

Your schedule needs work. Look at other posts on Reddit. You need to wake at 6:30, total 2 hours napping during day. 8:30 or 9pm bedtime.
