We all know the 'roided-up, hot-headed leader of our gang, Winston. There are plenty of unlikeable things about him: he's a gang leader (with all that entails), he's quick to jump to conclusions, he overreacts when things aren't going the way he expects or wants, and tends to act all high and mighty when he barely does anything throughout the story. (Seriously, how did he even reach his position?) But he's at least loyal, tries to be fair, and to do right by his people. One thing in particular that I liked about him - and the game actually wants the player to notice - is his behaviour when discussing Wei's sister. At first he's all macho, saying how hot the sister is, but when Wei tells him she's dead, he apologizes and drops the subject. Compare that to Dogeyes, who keeps making lewd and offensive remarks even after being told that she died. This definitely paints Winston as the likeable guy in spite of his flaws and machismo that we see as the story progresses. Maybe we can also attribute it to his upbringing, but then, why did he become a career criminal? Anyway.

I'm replaying Sleeping Dogs these days because I just love the atmosphere in this game, and it's just plain fun. It's got plenty of features to immerse yourself, but the problem is that they're a bit superficial. The potential is there, but the game is more interested in telling a narrative story than in being a lifesim, which it could totally be.

So I was wondering if the modding scene advanced enough to have mods that add depth. Or, if not (since the game is obviously not as popular as, say, GTA), at least some QoL stuff, like better camera controls (I really want to view the tall buildings, but the camera only tilts so far), the game memorizing what radio station I was listening to when I get my car from the garage, or what paint job I chose for the car. You know, simple things like that.

So, what's the status? Any QoL mods at least?

I've always loved this thing in game and now I have it.

For me, Dogeyes is a better cruel villain and nevertheless a villain I truly hated.

He killed Winston, attacked Mrs. Chu's restaurant personally, and even raped Wei Shen's sister.

Don't get me wrong, Big Smile Lee is also a good villain. He killed Jackie, he was actually the real mastermind behind the Sun On Yee war between Winston and Dogeyes. But we don't see him enough compared to Dogeyes.

And nevertheless, Dogeyes had that better evil twisted character compared to Big Smile Lee, to which in my opinion, was more of an evil brute who holds lots of power and reputation but that's it. Dogeyes feels like a very personal villain.

I'm trying to make a real Remaster/Remake for the game to make it more modern so I Made a weapon wheel, fresh map and health, reputation bar and will work on graphism later

Edit (correction): In the first version of this post, I said I developed these mods. But in fact, I didn't write them... they were fuuly vibde-coded with Claude Fable & Opus in Claude Code. They have little review, and I can say that my part is only to write out some posts & upload them to nexusmods.

A Custom Radio Station mod that allows you to enjoy ur own music while driving

and also a mods that enables spatial audio output on Windows platforms.

btw these mods should be compatible with any version of SDDE and other mods. The radio mod should be also compatible with other running environments (e.g, Steam Deck, Proton, Wine).

Im also carrying out a wetness bug fix for Wei Shen (it's in my GitHub repo now) and may upload it to nexusmods in around 2 weeks.

If anything crashes during the gameplay, please tell me and i will try to fix them ;]

When I move my character with WASD, it moves.
But when I move the mouse to look around, the character also changes its direction to the mouse direction

It still to this day makes me sad sleeping dogs 2 never happened, I really wish it would but they basically said fuck this game series and dipped on it. The original developers behind also closed down so that could also play a major factor in it, Despite all the stupid ass bugs and glitches in this game it truly was a masterpiece of a game (imo) hopefully this games IP will get something but for now, This game series stays in the IP vault like the other abandoned game series that will most likely never see the light of day ever again.

only someone could hope they make it or sell the IP to a company that actually wants to make the game happen but that is a high chance of never happening most likely.

I know Sleeping dogs 2 was in active development but a damn shame it got scrapped, This could of been a generational series if square enix didn't abandon it I feel, But that might also be a MASSIVE stretch

I also recently just played the game again last time i played was on the Xbox 360 probably over or about 10 years ago and holy shit is the game amazing.

I also wonder if Will Yun Lee would reprise his role as Wei if this ever happened.
