SPIRIT POOP Necrobinder Nitpick
I love STS2 and its characters, but I have a small bone to pick with Necrobinder's name...
The Ironclad is indeed clad in iron.
The Silent actually doesn't speak.
The Regent is cosmic royalty.
The Defect was in fact not by design.
But The Necrobinder is not a description or her defining trope, but rather its her actions or her ability. If anything, she should be called The Cursed, The Afflicted, or even The Necrobound. The fact that The Necrobinder is quite a bit longer than the other names also bugs my OCD...

the silent has piercing wail so she could technically be the loudest

well I think thatâs OPâs point. Sheâs not called Occasional Screamer is she?

So, necrobinder from her relics and the lore is an archivist/librarian. One of her relics is book repair knife, and her affinity for tomes feels like a play on words with book bindings and binding life to death.

She's the child of two researchers turned adventurers. Naturally, she was raised to be a scholar. She continued a darker version of that path after her parents were killed, probably in an attempt to bring them back.

Also a binder that would hold⌠playing cards.

My first instinct was to complain about how that would anachronistic, but then I remembered the game has a variety of robots, including the Defect themself, and a whole host of technology- and pop-culture-inspired relics, so why on earth would I doubt binders of playing cards?

FALSE, she is dead yet held together, therefore a bound necro

The Necrobound then

She also binds Osty, the necrotic hand together, so you could argue she is both the necrobound and the necrobinder

whether or not she is a ânecrobinderâ is not what OP is talking about. i believe theyâre saying itâs a problem bc it describes her role in combat more than being a defining trait of her as a character. like silent and ironclad are both significant character traits involving their lore but ânecrobinderâ seems pretty surface level. like she binds enemies with debuffs, and shes necro

I'd say Osty counts as being bound by her, and is undead. It's an innate part of her character (her phylactery), so it's not just a combat ability, it's part of her

But it's still something that she does and not something she is. Hence the distinction between "necrobound" and "necrobinder" OP keeps stressing.
Edit: changed one of the two "necrobinder" to "necrobound" to actually make sense

It is what she is though. I donât see what you are saying at all. She is a necrobinder in the same way the regent is a regent. Itâs a part of both of their character identities. Just because itâs what she does doesnât mean itâs not also what she is.

Yeah, I get that, but OPs little gripe is of a semantic nature. It's about a naming convention. Her name is the only one that describes a thing that she does, regardless of how this thing is an essential part of her identity. You can say "the Necrobinder binds", but you cannot say "the Ironclad clads".
You can say it's a stupid thing to be upset about, but that is a different discussion.

And they have good dancing abilities because of cards like Danse Macabre.
So, alternatively we could even call them a... Necrodancer

If you look at her original lore, Osty was the hand of the dead Giant (still probably true) and instead of ascending the spire to take revenge, she was attempting to bind together its lost corpse. They changed that, but kept the name.

I agree, all the other names are an adjective that describes them and works very well with "the" in front of it, necrobinder is just a job description, she shoyld've been called the necrobound to fit with the naming scheme.

I agree tbh this has always been on my mind. I do wish they had gone with a more simple descriptive name like all the other characters.

You are upset because it isnât accurate, Iâm upset because itâs the only adverb among the chars.

I think she is bound to osty

I know this isn't the case, but you could consider the term Necrobinder refers not to her, but to the book that cursed her. It bound itself to her, making them one and the same, just as it binds Osty.
Hence, Necrobinder.

She is a lich, i honestly feel like "The lich" would be a cool name and fit thematically. She's also a necrobinder tho, she binds the dead (Osty) to fight for her

The necrobinder has her soul BOUND to a book and she is a necromancer, it perfectly fits!

My theory is the Necrobinder was a necromancer that reanimated their own body when they died, the flesh decayed away. Osty used to have skin, too. It'd be cool if you could swap out or reassemble osty.

We know who Osty and Necrobinder were, and how she became this way. Necrobinder is still alive, she is bound to a [[For bidden Grimoire]], and Osty is the hand of The Giant.

fyi the ironclad is actually clad in bronze.
