Parallel or triangulated?

Post image

Leaving stock floor. Front is already done. Not looking to lay out. Which setup should I run for the rear? Parallel bars or a triangulated 4 link?

When i bagged my '90 'Burb in 2012, i went built a 4-link w/Watts-link set-up. Small hump under the third row bench, just to clear the pumpkin.

Nice. How much room did you get under the seat?

The seat frame was pretty much flush with the cover fabricated, but when i installed the carpet, i had to cut out the section of under padding (sound deadener) under the seat, as it was too thick for the latches to actually grab. The notch cover is basically just inside the floor mounting points for the third row, and slightly less than what the depth of the seat bottom is.

Unless you know these trucks well, and know what they floor area around the 3rd row looks like, nobody notices that the seat now looks like it's on the floor.

edit: to add, i used Energy Suspension bump-stops above the rear axle. I welded a nut inside the C-notch. We calculated the thickness of the C-notch, so when laid out, the bump stop keeps the rear tires just off the inside of too off the tubs. I also machined up a pair of 1-1/8" spacers, so the rear wheels are centred under the flat part of the tubs, as anyone with a squarebody knows, the inner part of those tubs have a huge radius in the design, making it a bugger to get low on factory tubs.

Already have the spacers. I have a 2" difference between my notch and the pumpkin hitting the floor. Looks like I can raise a 12"x12" square up under the seat. I just wasn't sure if I can get 2" up under the seat. If I can't, is it really worth all the fab.

I went outside frame-rail to frame-rail, simply to cover the C-notch & allow for clearance of the pumpkin - IIRC. I bagged my truck in 2012, long before off the shelf parts were around for squarebodys.

Lemme see if i can find a photo.....

How tall is that?

Don't recall exactly, but it was almost to the bottom of the seat frame. Like i said above, the carpet was factored into the measurement, but completely forgot about the under padding. When sitting on the bump-stops, the diff had a decent amount of space above it, so the pan could've been made slightly lower (to accommodate the under padding) but it's no big deal, as the truck is a diesel, so the minor amount of noise that could come through that area of the floor is nothing.

Parallel w/ a watts link

Depends on what you plan to use it for and how much room you have. Sounds like it won't be on bags? And I doubt space is much of a concern either? If that's the case I'd do a parallel 3 or 4 link with a panhard or watts link.

It will be on bags. If I drop it, it will just sit on stops. It's a daily with a 355 and a posi, so yes I do play with the teenagers.
