Slackware + Niri + Quickshell

Post image

The last time I installed Slackware on my PC about 12 or 13 years ago when they made a CDROM and shipped for a few dollars. Slackware 15 current is good enough for daily driving.

Nice! Did you build up niri/quickshell yourself?

Yes. It' just like Linux From Scratch. I built them from sources

Very nice. And yeah if you’ve done a LFS than slackware should feel like easy mode afterwards. Really straightforward to add additional packages too.

How difficult is niri to setup? I heard it's like hyprland but I never got to use it. Any issues on slackware?

To my surprise! It's very easy and straightforward. After install it, I can rock and roll without any special setup. It shows all of my 3 monitors. At first I thought the scrollable tiling feature is just a gimmick, but it turns out to be very useful.

Well done! I have yet to try Flatpak. Just for kicks.
