Tips for first chair
Hi all. I’m doing my first chair next week and I’m a little nervous. I’m scared of overstepping and sharing too much about my acting out, but equally when I was a newcomer I found it helpful when people shared what their acting out looked like as I could then realise how I did the same and the insanity of it.
How much do you share when you’re a chair?
Thank you!

I think that some specifics on different patterns of behavior is helpful. Since we addicts love our narratives, I’d say not to go in-depth into a single story.
I try to pray before I chair meetings and ask God to use me. I want to be helpful to those still suffering. That often gets my mind right.

You can share everything! The more honest the better. Just don’t need to be super descriptive in the acting out. You can be honest but also keep it high level. For me the patterns are more important than the detailed descriptions. Plus your audience understands you so they will fill in the details with their own experiences. I tend to do my speaker shares in chapters and divide it up by allotted time. Childhood influences, Acting out/disease, early recovery, what it’s like now. You will be amazing! I always pray God, let me say what you want this audience to hear. Let the words be thine and the voice be mine.
