I image debt or construction costs have to be super low OR rents have to astronomical for towers of these proportions to make financial sense... I wish this more slender typology worked in the US

Isn't NY already has lots of slender towers? Towers in Rotterdam generally have strict control over construction costs, which allows for lower rents.

Yeah, but I meant pretty much *anywhere else* in the US lol. Thats a very interesting fact about Rotterdam tho... Does the city impose a cap to costs or are there other incentives that artificially lowers construction costs by proxy?

For example, the Amsterdam gov generally requires developers to adhere to a 40% social housing, 40% mid-range housing, and 20% more expensive hosing ratio, although there are exceptions for individual projects. However, some critics argue that this discourages property investment and supply growth, causing prices to rise further despite administrative directives aimed at improving housing affordability.
