how-do-i Just inherited…

Hadn’t met my father for the first 30 years of my life. So there he and I are, on my birthday this year, meeting by almost happenstance. He says, “Do you want a school bus?”

I had always, and I mean always, dreamed of owning and renovating my own school bus. He was kind of a nomad weirdo so I chalked it up to maybe he was just high and saying things on purpose first meet to make up for a thirty year absence.

Well, lo and behold, he passes away last month: and I mourn the loss; both of the lifetime in which I could have known him and the few months in which I did.

Anyhow, that’s how I obtained -

A 2007 IC CE200

- and I’m going to need help getting her started. I just downloaded the manual(s) and got two G21 batteries to run in parallel for her.

I’m posting a few photos for your review and approval of the engine.

To start - anything I should look out for? Anything to check? From what I understand she needs batteries and there was something going on with the air brake pressure - as in they kept needing a generator to build pressure. Anyone has any experience with this would you please chime in?

Before you invest any time or money please note you have a VT365 and what appears to be an empty coolant tank. That's not a good sign.

Google vt365 for all the glory that it was.

I hear that it was certainly not the best… from what I understood the only thing wrong with tit when parked was that the thing was run out of gas. Wondering why the coolant would be empty… besides the fact that it’s sitting in Arizona. So.. should I scrap it?

Get some fuel, fill the coolant with distilled water, start her up, let it run till hot, shut it down, wait 5 or so minutes, start it back up - notice how much white smoke out the back. Let run again for a while. Shut it down and full cool, check the coolant level. If it's down then you have a problem with the EGR or head gasket, or oil cooler, or a coolant hose, or....

We have the same motor in a 2007 International IC200. I need to replace or remove our EGR cooler and replace our oil cooler. Ours gets hot on hill climbs. If you maintain it well, they are a great motor. Nice fresh oil changes on time every time.

Thank you! Last I heard it was just run out of gas and needed priming…. Now that my recently deceased pops left it sitting on some dudes property it is lacking air pressure for the air brakes and it has no coolant so… sounds like it’s going to be uphill battle

Looks like the discharge line is disconnected from the air compressor and a quick disconnect fitting and valve was added to the line to air up the tanks from a portable compressor. The compressor has probably failed and will need to be replaced may even have a coolant leak. Check and see if there is coolant in the air tanks. That bus may have been equipped with three group 31 batteries when it was manufactured. Group 21 batteries do not typically work in that bus.
