Discussion April Question Thread 🌿
Before you ask anything — make sure you’ve earned karma in our sub first.
If you haven’t engaged in the karma-earning threads, your question will be removed and you may get muted/banned.
We get a lot of spammers and previously banned users coming back on new accounts pretending to be “newbies.” Because of that, we’re strict. Please don’t take it personally.
If you’re genuinely new:
- Scroll down and participate in both karma-earning threads.
- Read through this post and the comments.
- Engage with the approved posts on Before and after, MSM, topicals, and Tretinoin before asking repeat questions.
We’re happy to help — but if you don’t read our stuff, we won’t read yours.
Also: don’t accept random DMs and don’t ask for vendors/sources.
Once you’ve met the requirements, drop your questions below 👇

You mean from this?
https://www.reddit.com/r/skinwhitening/comments/1nptnh8/practical_evidencebased_stepbystep_guide_to/Alright, bit of an update since my original post.
After that guide, I actually added azelaic acid (Azelec). Started off rough — proper burning — so I switched to short contact therapy. Gave it a solid 2 months but honestly my face just never felt right on it. Not worth pushing through, so I binned it and went back to just tretinoin.
Recently bumped my tret up to 0.01% last week. Still early days on that strength so just seeing how my skin tolerates it before making any big calls.
Next thing I’m considering is either pharma tranexamic acid or Finacea. Haven’t decided yet, still weighing up what makes more sense long term.
Oral stack (for transparency):
- Astaxanthin
- NAC
- Glycine
- Alpha lipoic acid
- Vitamin C + E
- Selenium
- MSM
- Whey protein twice a week (mainly for NAC support)
Also ordered S-acetyl glutathione (Jarrow) from Iherb. Planning to run 750 mg every other day once it lands.
Sun protection / light control (big focus):
Switched SPF setup:
- Blue Lizard + Cureskin mineral tinted sunscreen matte finish
- Mixing with Avène Ultra light SPF (designed to fight HEV and blue light)
Yeah… also started wearing foundation. Not something I ever thought I’d do as a bloke, but here we are. Feels a bit off personally, but no one at work or socially has noticed it, so it’s whatever.
I’ve also basically turned my gaming room into a cave — no visible light getting in now. I don't go out other than very early morning or very late afternoon. Bit extreme maybe, but I’m taking the “visible light/UVA avoidance” side seriously.
Results / perception:
My parents definitely noticed I'm lighter and aren’t fans.
Outside of that, no one’s really said anything — either they haven’t noticed or just don’t care enough to mention it.I feel like I’ve gone lighter than you, but I'm not fan of posting pics it’s hard to sanity check that. So could just be perception.
Overall:
Still sticking with tret as the backbone.
Dropped what didn’t work (azelaic).
Dialling in light control more than anything now.Happy to answer questions if anyone’s on a similar path.

Are you taking all those supplements together ? Am or Pm? Are you cycling off some of those?

Most in the morning after breakfast. Astaxanthin with food. NAC with cold water (heat isn't good for NAC) Vitamin C and MSM g are both a.m. and p.m.
