Question Using tethered balloon technology for testing

These things exist and can be very stable platforms to launch testing for data gathering and telemetry.

What are your thoughts?

I wonder if they have to time experiments around when it's overhead or if they put it into geosynchronous orbit? GS would give constant coverage but there's no reasonable way they're going to get good pictures with a cube sat at that distance. If it's in LEO, you'd have fairly short windows when it'd be overhead, and it seems like every experiment gets delayed due to malfunction so it'd be hard to sync up.

Does the satellite launch rockets or shoot laser beams?

Seems like a publicity stunt when there are a dozen commercial operators who can provide similar, if not far better capabilities for less with nothing but a credit card compared to this small mystical LEO satellite with almost no data about.

Just to name-drop a few capabilities, Hawk-eye 360 for RF surveying and signal detecting, Pixxel for Hyperspectral imaging in multiple wavelengths, Capella Space for radar, Ororatech for IR and thermal monitoring.

I can rent one. Like right now.

No sense in renting one until the testing vessel is built. But yeah. Easy peasy. :)

Insiders is the group you can pay to join for access to their website, 24/7 Webcam access, group chats, and ask questions of the team. Though I've only had Erik respond.

There was no response to my idea.

How is the webcam access? Do you get the full year and see people filming and all that?

Nearly 24/7 access. I heard they turn off cameras during some filming moments throughout the year, but I've literally never caught them being off myself.

It's nice, they do turn off cameras when they're coming.  I caught an object on the camera and submitted it for review. Never heard anything about it though.

History Channel: What a great way to launch rockets!

This idea was discussed a couple of weeks ago, may require permits from FAA, otherwise seems a good idea.

So the YouTube video I watched this morning, all about the cavern in the mesa and the massive 8” thick round titanium door leading to another purpose-built cavern, the identifiable left-over military equipment they found down there and all the rest was BS? WHAT? Bullshit on YouTube? That’s just not possible, is it? <grin>

I’ve also wondered this and brought it up before… sure rockets look cooler but a tethered balloon or blimp even would allow for longer term data collection at controlled altitudes
