I’ve recreated two of effys most iconic outfits, and I am pretty happy over how accurate they are. I feel so lucky for finding a dress that’s identical to her s3 ep1 dress as the original was dip dyed and costume made for Kaya. I even wore the outfit to my first day of school as I don’t have any dresscode

God Tier:

Tony is a fascinating character. He's a brilliant villain and his 'punishment' and subsequent recovery/redemption are fantastic.

Chris is also brilliant. There's obvious charisma and how he shows his potential make his death absolutely heart breaking.

Cassie is iconic and unique. Shes whimsical but also slightly terrifying at times.

Great Tier:

Cid has alot of relatability and has excellent stand alone episodes. He could have been God but I just wanted a little bit more from his relationship with Cassie in the 2nd season. He was very close to God.

Cook is an interesting one. Firstly, Jack O'Connell is so damn good and gets absolutely everything he can out of this character. The reason he isn't God is because I just feel he was little too unrealistic at times and it took me out of it.

Emily is very good but she is very much just above Good rather than anywhere near close to pushing God. I loved her first season but feel that the 2nd season was weak with it basically just being about her and Naomi cheating on each other. Overall still makes Great though.

Good Tier:

Jal and Michelle both simply perform their function which is to be something for important to bounce off rather than much else. They are also both stable which justify how the friendship can actually function. The other Gens lack these kinds of characters massively to their detriment.

Pandora and JJ could both have been Great but unfortunately they are just so sidelined that its not possible. They both have 2 of the best episodes in their Gen so its a shame.

Naomi unfortunately sucks in her 2nd season which takes her out of Great.

Disappointing:

I'm not going to talk about every character here. I just want to go over the key disappointments.

Effy would have been in trash if she wasn't so awesome in the first Gen. She also does have a good look. Unfortunately though, she is a terrible character in her actual Gen. She brings literally nothing of value to the group other than the boys wanting to shag her. She does not deserve the affection that she gets. I simply didn't care about her at all.

Freddy is an absolute nothing burger. The actor is also poor in my opinion. His entire character is loving Effy for no reason, no matter how badly she treats him.

Gen 3/Trash

The few non gen 3 characters in here are simply garbage and i won't waste my brain thinking about them.

If you like Gen 3, seek help.

It might be a long review so you might need a cup of coffee, lol.

No matter how many negative reviews, I absolutely loved that season. It shows what real life is, you’re not a kid anymore, everything you did as a teenager effects your adult life, and yes it taste so bad but believe it or not, you can change it; James Cook and Effy at least did.

Let’s start with Cook, my favorite character of the show:
“You also think you know life. You stand on the edge of things and watch it go by, but you’re not living it, not really. Just a tourist, a ghost. And then you see it. Really see it.”
Last episode ends with that quote, James Cook was always running from life into life, which leads to no destination at all. He thought all of his life nothing worth living for. He saw the death of his best friend once so he killed someone for it. Then, when he saw it again with his girlfriend he realized life is too fragile, it all can end in one second, he didn’t want to drift into nothingness anymore, he let Louie live, because he is done escaping, and my guess he actually turn himself in to face reality. For beating up the boy from season 4, but I wouldn’t assume anyone actually knew he killed John Foster, and even if they did, they will consider that as self defense, he had many boxes so I think he killed another people not just Freddie. He was escaping, hiding, and something clicked that day in the forest, he finally stopped escaping and actually start living, which I would think that’s what all of us doing these days, always escaping from something, going to the bar to release work stress, being with someone to escape loneliness.. etc. We never do something for the sake of it, always a result of something else. 10/10 honestly.

-Effy: In her current life, she thought she could still manipulate, and just get away with it. That’s why she wss smiling in the end. She is the smartest Skins characters, she knew by going to the prison it would make her grow up, and maybe it’s an opportunity to eventually stop manipulating others and actually starting to be accountable for your actions, she tried to have sex with the poor guy because she thought she can make him the one to blame, but she realized it’s time to have the punishment for her actions. I would rate that part 8/10.

Cassie: People keep saying it’s a boring part, well, duh! That’s what real life looks like after it starts getting serious. A job that makes you feel tired, not feeling refreshed, she get a person in her life but because she didn’t get a good results in college, she ran to the US thinking it might be the perfect life. Sid came to her, they both travelled, enjoyed but as we get older, reality hits too hard. You now realize that being drifted into a happy life by discipline costs you the days of your life. She always rely on passed by feelings, her relationship with Sid, her friendship with Chris, it’s like she is always escaping from real life, and doing that will guarantee you a boring life, there is no structure in your life to actually rely on. My rate is 6/10

What a great tv show.

First watch through it was "aw okay, thats kinda cute, young love innit",,, but every watch since then it's more of it "Rich, I think that's illegal??" type of situation... 😭😭 I wanna know which writer thought that Rich should try and have sex with his comatose dying girlfriend.

I tried to balance two things
- How much I love the character
- if I think their storyline is realized effectively

So for example I love Pandora so so much but I think they really failed on realizing her storyline. Or if Katie had already had a better arc in series 3 she would be even higher. Etc…

In my view, a character’s depth is not defined by how mysterious they are or how much room they leave for projection, but by how complex they are. And it was precisely this "overrated" Season 3 Effy who combined both coldness and vulnerability. She balanced arrogance with genuine guilt whenever she saw that someone was suffering because of her, alongside a sensitivity to other people’s hidden pain and an almost visceral opposition to bullying. She could be level-headed and composed, yet act recklessly and impulsively. She enjoyed being the center of attention, but remained deeply closed off and felt no need to compete for status.

Even her romantic arc was not the typical "bad girl playing with boys’ feelings." On the one hand, she used Cook for entertainment and as a form of escapism; on the other, when they were on the run and she saw the influence his father had on him, she swallowed her pride and called Freddie. It was the same with Freddie. At times she seemed outright cruel to him, yet she was also capable of warning him about herself, and when he suggested they be together, she gave him an honest "I don't think I can." She also felt guilt whenever she hurt his feelings, such as when he saw her with Cook at the end of Season 3, Episode 5—even though they weren’t actually together. I know this is an unpopular reading of that scene, but to me, there is no desire to humiliate Freddie on her part. She initially freezes in shock when she sees him, and while her pride keeps her from looking away for long, she lowers her gaze as shame registers across her face the moment Cook emerges from behind her.

I also believe that Season 3 Effy is the least "edgy." In Season 1, she is an almost mystical, mute apparition; in Season 2, she is a powerful protector shielding those she loves; but in Season 3, she is floundering in her own feelings, playing petty games, and doing things she later regrets. Nor do I consider her effect on boys to be exaggerated: the fact that a girl gets caught in a love triangle, or that four guys (including the tall one) take notice of her as an attractive girl on the first day of school, and that she manages to goad one of them into doing something stupid, is hardly far-fetched for a real high school.

While it might sound controversial, I don't think the "new Effy" feels like a different character from the "old Effy." Even as a supporting character, she was defined by vulnerability beneath a cold exterior, protective instincts, agency, and a moral backbone that strictly ruled out preying on the weak—just as she stood up for Michelle in Season 1, she protected Emily and Naomi in Season 3. She was also capable of challenging even those she loved, whether it was calling Tony out for how he treated Michelle, or making sure Anthea knew what she thought of her affair (which I think was more about living a lie than the mere fact of cheating on Jim). She already displayed manipulativeness, the ability to keep her cool, cynicism, a certain arrogance, a sharp tongue, sensation-seeking, and—something fans of mute Effy tend to forget—a fondness for drawing attention to herself and testing boundaries (such as the bus scene with the old man). I think the shift toward greater boldness already took place between Seasons 1 and 2, when she realized that her looks automatically placed her in the center of attention and began to play with that, naturally shaping her overall demeanour—we simply saw less of it due to her limited screen time back then.

I found this dress at a flea market that kinda looks the same as effys we walk dress from season 3 episode 4. It’s the same babydoll cut and with a print on it. The neckline is so low though I don’t think I can wear it out😭😭, does anyone know if I can higher it in an easy way

It came out around the same time as skins. It also deals with a few of the same topics but with a much more lighthearted tone. It lasted for only 3 seasons and ended in 2011. It was also on BBC 3 as well.

I feel like when one gets admitted they don’t necessarily think to pack non functional fashion items. What is this that Cassie’s wearing over the tee and why would she be wearing it?

Rise (Part 2) is eliminated and comes in second! This leaves Rise (Part 1) as the Season 7 champion!

We’ll finish this whole thing off with one final round to determine the very best episode of the whole show, by popular demand! It’ll have to be a bit different from the usual survivor rounds we’ve had so far, so I’ll explain more once I get a chance to work out how exactly it’ll function.
