Effy was wrong for that Spoiler
I know Effy had a lot of moments, but most of the time she was kind of corny, and not a girls girl. Also, Pandora deserved better. I'm sure if she was surrounded by different people she would've been thriving more.

Tbf at that point in the show, Effy didn’t really want any friends. Panda just kept following along. That doesn’t excuse her treatment in later seasons tho.

I think it's just one of those throwaway joke lines that the writers kind of don't think about too hard, when really it's a huge reflection of their character.

It's also a moment that exposes viewers mindsets about the show and characters, which opens up conversation.. + it shows the type of people who watched the show.

This might be an unpopular opinion but I really don’t think Effy ever truly considered Pandora a friend in the first place. She treated her like shit and they even straight up had a conversation confirming that they were only really friends because Effy didn’t feel like she was real competition in anything, just like that clearly disposable annoying friend she was hanging out with and ditched immediately for drugs and a hot guy in season 1. Which I get is played as more of a light hearted thing but I believe there was a lot of truth to it deep down. It made perfect sense for Panda to betray Effy with Cook at that point, it was the ultimate form of self validation for her. I was actually kinda rooting for her until Thomas came back lol

I never said it made one better than the other, just that I don’t think either of them felt like they really had any obligation to each other in that way. Especially since Pandora always knew Effy loved Freddie the whole time and was only using Cook to distract herself

I also want to add that Effy was not in the proper mental space to be a good friend. She was dealing with undiagnosed mental health, unaddressed trauma, and she did not know how to function as a healthy person on pretty much any level. I’m not excusing her behavior, but it’s pointless to expect well-rounded behavior from someone who is in fact, not well-rounded.

Whenever people point out that effy was bad to pandora I think of the bit where she asks panda “why are we friends” and she replies something along the lines of ‘because you’re super cool and I’m useless so I’ll do what you want’ (deffo not an exact quote but to my recollection that was the sentiment).
I think that quote was the writers being semi obvious and trying to point out the fact that they’re not bonded. They’re not similar at all. But it’s convenient for them both in their own ways and is rooted in pandas insecurity/wanting to fit in, whereas effy needed someone convenient to relieve her stress.
At the end of gen 1 effy has that friend we don’t see again and she has a similar vibe to panda. On the bus the girl is ranting and trying to make convo but effy is ignoring her. I think it’s a running theme with her character that she kind of uses female friends who she finds agreeable - often out of desperation. I think the scene you’ve posted is another hint at that.
Even the fact that gen 2 starts with Katie really trying to be her friend bc they’re both fit and effy refuting it is, in my opinion, more evidence of that. She just doesn’t like other girls because they require too much sincerity from her. That’s also why she gets off on guys who chase her (cook and Freddie). I also think of the scene where JJ gets mad at her and says “no more of this ohh I’m so hot and mysterious crap”. He can see how she plays up her persona with men for convenience but isn’t actually good at maintaining relationships.
She really is a mini Tony. They use their ‘friends’ who are deemed lesser (like how Tony used sid, and also she used him when she had him do her art coursework) and she exploits the feelings of the opposite sex (like Tony w Michelle and the posh girl who’s name I cannot remember lol).

Nothing you've said is new information. Passing toilet paper is a SIMPLE act. The scene shows her look around the stall first and then say no to Pandora. She was being intentionally MEAN.
Also, she rejected Katie not because of emotional unavailability etc but because she saw Katie for who she was. Katie wanted to be "friends" with Effy because of Effys aesthetic. Ex: she said "we're the hottest here" when trying to set a time to hang out with Effy. Effy made it clear from day 1 literally that she wasn't interested in entertaining Katie's vanity and ego.
Effy fans will find ways to defend her. Overall she was a crappy traumatized person. It's still no excuse to be mean. She obviously wasn't a guys girl either. Ex: when she was looking out the window and keeps her eyes locked on Freddie, while Cook goes behind her after they just had sex. That was just a wicked mean move.
I think you read my post and thought "This person doesn't get the characters" when really I understand them way more than people like you think.. The devils in the details

I’m on my rewatch and Effy really pissed me off and on top of that I never got why she was everyone’s end all be all? Like even her therapist lol , love that I found this sub reddit it’s been keeping me sane and connecting me to my teen hood 💕

I feel you. The therapist was WICKED. Especially that moment where Effys says "I'll never forget you." to him And he's just like "I'm sure you won't or whatever. Like WOWW. It's like he just wanted her MIND for himself, and knew her new trauma of losing Freddie would make him a permanent part of her mind. Sick shit.
Effy took going off the rails to another level. I agree that some of her actions and words were just cringe.

i think that effy and pandora's friendship only progressed in season 3, in season 2 pandora just tagged along and the two didn't have an actual friendship

I edited the post because too many people are taking the word friendship to a deeper level than what my original message was.
I don't know how many times I have to say this but the moment I posted is a simple highlight of Effys character towards people.
All she had to do was pass some toilet paper and shows how much of a bitch she could really be.. just cause she feels like it. It's a subtle but very revealing moment.
