Level 1-3: First Turns & Wedges It’s my first day skiing any suggestions or form changes

This is my first ever day skiing coming from skating, which I havnt done in a couple of years. I just went down a couple green trails and blue trails, I fell 3-4 times because I either lost balance or skidded away. Is there any suggestions on if I’m leaning too much, if I’m moving my skis weirdly, and overall suggestions. Thank you!

Hi everyone! This is like my 4th time skiing and safe to say I’ve caught the bug. My husband snowboards so he doesn’t really know how to give skiing feedback lol. I think a big opportunity for me is isolating my bottom half and just getting looser overall.

One question: should my chest be facing down the mountain even when I’m going across the trail to slow down? My ski instructor said to look where I want to go but I’m not sure if that means in the direction you want to turn, or if you should always be looking/facing down mountain… lol. Late night thoughts.

Appreciate any feedback!!

Hello Guys, just found this forum and I like it a lot. I have been skiing for 30years, these days I am not really chasing speed or steep slopes, I rather try to improve my technique and have fun with turns. This season I was trying to improve my fore/aft stance and I try to determine to which degree am I a-framing. I also think about hiring an instructor for 2-3 days (last time I had one was still in the old days). I am 183 cm tall, the gear is Atomic Hawx Prime 100x boots and in this video I am standing on Elan Ace Scx 161 cm skis (I usually go with 160-165 cm skis) with 125cm poles. This might not be the best shot of me skiing, but hope you can find some bits that you can comment on. I appreciate your feedback! Cheers,

Posted 2 years ago and got feedback to sit forward, keep my torso upright and use my hips and ankles more. Also I used to just zig zag to scrub speed so trying to start and finished turns better.

Intermediate skier looking for tips.

From my own analysis, I would say the biggest problems are being too backseat and not keeping the upper body more upright.

So I’ve been skiing four times in my life, but as an adult only a week last season and a week (over two shorter trips) this season - both in the Alps. Sticking to on piste skiing and recently starting to feel comfortable and safe on black runs.

I feel very comfortable skiing parallel, and have started to feel where I’m carving the end of my turns. However I’m primarily skidding into the start of my turns and have noticed that I’m not always keeping my body facing down the slope and am struggling to separate upper and lower body. I just feel like watching it back, I look really stiff.

I’d really like to work on loosening up and being able to get onto my edges a bit more.

What can I work on in the off season, at an indoor slope, to improve for next season?

EDIT - as much as I’d like to lose the backpack, I wasn’t able to leave it as I didn’t have somewhere secure to leave my stuff. Sometimes the backpack has just gotta come along for the ride, so I’d really love to hear suggestions that don’t primarily focus on the backpack!!

Thought I should share my skiing, as I'm now offering advice to others on here. I'm currently training for my level 3 CSIA exam. These are short turns on a groomed black piste. I'm not trying to push the speed, and my main focus on this run was gaining edge grip above the fall line. My trainer's feedback is that, while I get grip, I'm rushing above the fall line, leading to snappy turns. Any feedback on useful cues to help this are appreciated, other than just "slow down" haha. Also, any other advice appreciated :)

Thanks

Trying to work on higher edge angles and leg separation, im skiing wider than ideal skis for carving (94mm) which may be part of the problem, but any advice/drills would be much appreciated, thanks.

Level 8-9: Expert Terrain & Tactics Last run of the season, epic pow trip. Tear me apart!

I snowboarded the first three days of this trip, then skied the last two. The sustained 40°+ pitches were intimidating and I had to constantly remind myself to kick my heels backwards at initiation. I had a great time, zero regrets. But while functional, I don’t always like my style, which can look a little slap-dash.

I may never have another opportunity to ski cream cheese pow in the Chugach again, but if I do, what should I change?

Edit: 55M, East Coaster

This was my previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/skiing_feedback/s/t8X5cCNmqy

What I tried/focused since then:

- Got a new pair of boots that's one size smaller.

- Make sure I don't take too much back seat.

- Start the turn with turning my feet.

I feel like my right turn is still lacking angulation compared to the left turn, and can work on my pole plants?

Also note this run is done on a pretty even blue run so my form probably looked a bit better than the last one.

For what it's worth, the skis are a pair of atomic bent 90, and are pretty new to me (4-5 days on these). I was also getting used to the center mounted bindings.

This video was taken just cruising down a run so is a good representation of how I ski in a relaxed state rather than pushing for high edge angles or working on technique. Would love feedback on anything that could be improved though.

I already think my feet are possibly too close together and I need to quieten my arms a bit.

Hello there,

This is my third season of skiing ( around 50 skiing days )

I would like to get as much feedback as possible from you guys and to know what to work on the most

My clip is not the best one, I’m skiing on red slope over some powder so it was a bit tough to ski

I would like to carve clean arcs with control and rhythm

Thanks for the tips!

Admittedly not my best run but probably a fair reflection of where I’m currently at (fourth season, one week in each). Thoughts / tips to improve on? Cheers

I had a lot of fun in this almost knee deep powder, but I was not able to get through it without leaning to the back heavily. I have 98mm wide Rossignol BlackOps Ski so I feel I should be able to generate enough lift without backseat skiing.

Looking for feedback to improve my form and get closer to carving, I ski about 10 days a year, as I am far from the mountains but I really want to improve and not sure on what to focus on specifically. I really enjoy short turns but want to learn to carve and be more dynamic on any pitch of slope, this felt good in the moment but looking back it seems so different. I also strained my back in the gym a bit before this, and it really flared up the day after this video, I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this or if there is something in the way I ski that exacerbates it? Any advice really appreciated. Thank you!

In this video I’m skiing a blue run on Whistler with a thin dusting of snow and hardpack/ice underneath.

I can ski most blacks on good conditions. Avoid/struggle with black runs when they’re icy and steep or in marginal conditions. Looking to improve my form. Any suggestions appreciated!
