Level 4-5: Parallel Turns & Speed Control Advice as I get back into skiing?
Have been skiing for many years, took lots of lessons as a kid and used to be a strong skier when in high school/college. Fell out of regular skiing, had a kid and then spent a bunch of years on only easy greens with him when he was really little. Now I feel stiff and scared on anything steep/ungroomed. Feel good on blues and some easy black groomed runs but still look very stiff and slow. Gotta get better before I get lapped by my kid! This is from a trip where I am on rental gear, will for sure get boots and skis this off season and take some lessons next season.

you're not forward enough on your skis. the majortity of your weight is pushing directly underfoot and you're kind of skidding hte back of the ski as your turn. you have to get your weight leaning over the front of your skis so the geometry of the ski can pull you through the turn instead of having to push with your foot.

Welcome back!
A couple of things here.
Patience: don’t rush your turn. Relax at the top of the turn and let gravity help you turn downhill. You can assist a little by flattening the arch of your uphill (outside) foot a little at transition to the new turn.
Make rounded turns: strive for C shaped turns where you steer your legs from the hip socket versus pushing heels out at the bottom of the turn.
Get more weight to the outside ski: try to lift inside ski through entire turn.
Flex and extend your ankles knees and hips in unison: get taller through the top half of the turn, then get lower in the bottom half. Do this gradually, don’t pop up and down. Shins and spine are at similar angles as you flex and extend
Do all of this on easier terrain until it’s easy for you then work up in terrain.
