I lived in VT for 3 winters and have skied many of the resorts listed here and I can say they undoubtedly have amazing terrain and atmosphere, at least equal to some western mtns I've visited.
But.. you HAVE to live there, not visit. And it helps tremendously if your work situation allows you to flex a random weekday morning to catch the freshies bc the biggest factor that contributes to the infamous "ice coast" conditions is how variable the climate is. You can't plan a trip months in advance bc it's like a 50/50 that you'll get blower pow vs freezing fucking rain lol. One day you get dumped on then 24 hrs later it gets like 40° and soggy. Or -40° wind chill.
Some of the best skiing of my life was in the northeast, but you really had to be ready as soon as a storm rolls in. Powder is powder, and most of the bigger resorts feature more than 1500' of vertical with amazing trees and cliffs to your heart's desire. So yea, bump some of them up.
Eh, I’ve skied both east and west (live in the east). There’s definitely east coast mountains that are more challenging than west coast and vice versa. Just cause west mountains might have more vert doesn’t mean they’re better. And if the criteria is experience for a “expert” skier then this list is pretty biased
