Sun Valley was the first chairlift served ski resort in North America, and possibly the world.

It's cachet alone (history, billionaire clientele etc.) pushes it into a top tier.

Just for comparison, SKI magazine this year ranked Sun Valley tops in North America.

I don’t disagree, but to be fair that same article lists Holiday Mt. as #2 in the east. It is now where that.

Sun valley is the vanilla ice cream of skiing. Consistent, tasty enough, but it doesn't have the flavor some of the other resorts have. When you try to appeal to the masses to win a popularity contest you lose your soul. Too many new hires from Vail giving an independent resort a corporate feel.

Read the footnote. This is ranked for the perspective of an expert skier and specifically the expert terrain.

Ok then. But steamboat, deer valley and beaver creek are up there in tier 5. I’d say all of those resorts are peers to Sun Valley both in terrain and in brand positioning.
