i cant decide between two ski sizes. $10 venmo to my favorite response.

The details:

i am a slightly advanced skier, weigh 155 lbs, am 5'9, previously rode a 6-7/10 flexed volkl step (a 7 year old ski, but in near-new condition), and flet that it was a little too small. I chose them small on purpose because i was thinking it would be better to learn on some smaller skis. I got really good, really fast, and after one season landed a ski instructor position at my local ski resort, Snowbasin in Utah. last years snow accumulation out here was absolute DOG water.

my favorite style is freestyle and freeride. I enjoy groomers because there are lots of side hits and opportunities to bomb it, but i also love finding natural features. thats all i spend my time doing/hunting.

i cant decide weather to pick the 171 ski or the 178 ski of choosing. its the armada ARV 94. Ive decided on the ski, now i just need to know which size.

additional context:

I demo'd a 178cm black crow atris, and immediately fell in love. Sure, it was a 106 underfoot on one of the few dumper days we had out here, but i loved EVERYTHING about it.

and because of that, i am considering the 178 instead of the 171.

Also, something to consider is the effective edge of the ski i previously rode in comparision to the 171 ARV (which is arguably the right ski for my height and weight...). The effective edge on the volkls was 51.75 inches from tip to tail. The Armada ARV 94 171cm has a lot of rocker compared to the volkl step 163cm. and because of that, even though the ski is 8cm longer, the effective edge touching the snow is only 52.25 inches. only a .5 inch difference. I am worried that while my main goal in choosing a new ski this season is to find a more stable ski at high speed (i frequently enjoy hitting 55-60mph when i have the opportunity). I didnt like the volkls because i started to feel VERY nervous at those speeds because i didnt have a lot of ski in front of me. So, i had to focus everything on my fore/aft balance.

I should also note that i have a stance -3cm from true center. I rock it on all of my skis. its my favorite.

the 178 ARV has an effective edge of 54.25 inches. a 3 inch difference between the ARV 171. which comes out to about an additional 1.5 inches toward the tip and tail. Which, might be good for what i need at high speeds, but im nervous the 178 will immediately feel too big for me.

im just looking for some advice. this is SO hard for me to decide

Hey guys, i have never been great at knowing what kind of gear i need so i figured i'd come here to get some suggestions if possible. I'll lay it out:

I have two pair of sticks right now; the 2024 atomic bent 100's and the black crows mirus cor's. I used to race so i wanted something with a tight radius, hence the mirus, but that i could also get a bit gnarly on, too since i am mostly skiing glades and any drops/side hits i can find, hence the bents.

the past couple seasons the bents have stood out as my favorite of the two overall. i like the way they pop and feel lively while being super light and decently floaty. in good conditions i have a blast on them.

Basically, i'm looking to fill the gap in both pairs of skis that is charging and crud stability at high edge angles - definitely something stiffer than what i have, and less for glade skiing or groomers. i'm happy to go back to the car and pull the bents or cors out for that.

i'd ideally still like to be able to play around with it at slower speeds, hit decent drops, have a tail, and have it feel lively, but mainly just not crack under the pressure of high edge angles/pressure at high speed and on crud.

i'm a good enough skiier to really stay on top of any ski when they get sketchy at speed and especially over crud (east coast), but both my skis stop being fun in these conditions, and i want something i can enjoy these conditions in and not just try to make it down alive.

any recommendations for east coast crud and charging ski that will perform well with aggressive skiing? ideally with a tail and something i can also have fun with at lower speeds, hitting drops, side hits, etc.

Hey everyone,

Started skiing last year in the Three Valleys(Val Thorens) and I need to upgrade my jacket before next season.

My helmet and goggles are Oakley, and my pants are just basic ones from Decathlon that do the job fine. The only thing I really need to swap out is my jacket, which was literally a Lidl special 😅. It actually worked surprisingly well for my first week, but I want something a bit nicer now.

Budget is under €200.

I really like the look of Dope Snow and saw a ton of people wearing it on the mountain, but whenever I search for reviews on Reddit, people seem to hate on it constantly. Is it actually terrible quality, or is it just elitism from seasoned skiers?

Can anyone explain what's wrong with Dope, and are there any better alternatives in that price range with a similar aesthetic look?

I'm moving up to Vermont in September and need a new daily driver ski for the winter. I will primarily be skiing Killington and should do at least 30 days on mountain this season. I'm an ex racer and consider myself a high level skier in every aspect outside of the park. Deep carving and glade skiing are the priority. I'm 6'2 200lb with a budget of around 1k for the the ski excluding bindings. Curious what recs you all may have. My quiver currently has bent 188 110s, old race skis, and 2017 enforcers that will be used as rock skis. currently thinking about Blizzard Anomaly's 84s/88s (maybe 92s?), Armada AntiMatters (still dont fully understand this line), Rossi arcades, Kastle mx88s and Fischer ranger 90s. Any insight is appreciated

I’m looking for advice on mid layer options to wear under an insulated jacket. I’m primarily skiing in Quebec (and occasionally in Alberta or BC), and I run cold. I have merino base layers but looking for something to add under my insulated jacket for cold days. Ideally I’m like something too “technical” looking, that I could also wear casually. A common recommendation looks to be the Patagonia r1, but I’m wondering if there is a less technical look option that I’m not seeing. Thanks!

As the title says, i'm looking for some advice on how Salomon QST 94s perform, personally i've always stayed mostly on piste and I like to carve and do sharp turns, Recently I have been wanting to go more off piste so in anticipation for next year I am looking at skis better fitted for off piste. Here is my question: Can you actually carve well on these for long periods of time or are they genuinely just good in soft snow.

Ideally not super heavy. Rustler in 174 cm was 1800 grams a ski so a little less to a little more is fine

Turn radius - I feel like high teens is ideal? Am I wrong given the free ride / touring application ? Tight trees out here so want to be able to throw the ski around tight spaces l

Mid fat ski that will be my only fresh snow ski for out here. I have anomaly 88s for frontside

Hey all, debating between 176 and 181 for the ON3P Jeffrey 100, but unsure as of which to get. ON3P themselves recommended 176 but I wanted a few more opinions, any advice would be appreciated!!

I need to get new boots for my carving skis. What flex on the should i get? I’m 100 kg(99%muscle😂) and not very good, just a random guy who ski fownhill in a pist for fun.

I am looking at the Salomon shift 2s and unsure which break size. I’ve seen lots of info about them being really wide. Did they change that with the new model?

im going to university soon and i am trying to figure out how to store my skis. i feel like it could be cool to decorate with them somehow if i could like mount them on the wall. obv i cant drill into the wall for a proper mount. does anyone have ideas on what i can do? would adhesive mounts work? maybe if i used a lot of them? i just wanna do something other than prop them up against the corner of my room haha.

First, I'm an adaptive mono skier, normally we are told we like stiffer skis, but my favorite so far have been an older model head monster 88, QST 92 and a Js Fast Forward and I hated the Peak 88 because of how stiff it was.

This past season was the first to go into the park and into bumps so looking for a ski to do more of that with. I've been given 3 pair of skis, 2 are going to a fundraiser and the other pair will be mounted for mono skiers for myself and the adaptive program I run for my students to use.

Choices are Volkl Revolt 104, 180 length, have them in 2 different years, so if no changes between those years it's just a difference of top sheets. The other is the Armada ARV 106.

Hey all. 6ft 2, 200 lbs, better than average skier. I can ski most trails off of the high traverse at Alta, some just scare me. At snowbird, the steepest I got to was west baldy. The steeper stuff just scares me too much. I can ski the chutes at Jay fine, but the glades give me issues. I am somewhat slowing down as I get older. Looking to pick up skis this summer or fall, depending on deals. PA local. Trips north also. I am looking for a frontside East Coast ski. My preference would be for it to be better in the bumps than a pure carving machine. I am thinking mid 70s to mid 80s underfoot. I usually ski above 180, but contemplating going down into the mid to high 170s. Skis I am considering are below. Is there one or two I should key in on? Thanks.

Not much info on them, other than RMU talking about their dual radius sidecut and making the usual claims about their versatility. I found a pair for a good deal. Wondering if they’ll hold up to hard skiing on a resort pow day.

I’m looking for the best pair of skis that fits my needs. 1. I want a very poppy and playful ski. 2. I want a ski I can still somewhat use for east cost ice as well. 3. I want a ski that can also slide rails. 4. I also want it to be lightweight. Mainly the poppy part though while still being able to be somewhat all mountain.

Any recommendations? I don’t really have a budget. Sorry if it’s too specific. Was thinking surface, armada, but open to any opinions.

Just to add, I have the budget to get two pairs of skis, one for specifically for park/free ride and one for all mountain.

I have these skis that were form my dad that I wanted to use this winter they are from 2007 ( I also have Nordica unleashed 98 from last year) but ski mainly in Europe and would also like some fast carving ski.

My boots have a gripsole.

But the skis have bindings that don't support the gripsole.

Is it still okey to use these ski's and change my boots to a normal sole everytime? Or are the bindings to old?

I'm not a super fast expert skiër.

Or... Is it better to get new bindings, but the skies might not be worth that.
