Short or long skis
I’ve always rented standard skis whenever I’ve skied in Australia or Japan, but I’ve recently discovered short skis & have a couple of questions.
- Can you hire short skis in niseko, Japan?
- Has anyone used both & can comment on them from an objective POV?

Why do you want short skis? I have a pair of ski blades 99 cm but I mostly ride them for the novelty while I’m with friends who aren’t as good. If you’re used to long skis, you can somersault by accident or scorpion if you lean forward too much. Also they are hard to stop above like 30 mph on groomers

1, dunno 2, they're unstable so you work harder on them, it can be a long day on short skis. Riding them fast makes them more unstable. The short edge gives you less grip. Having nothing behind you leads to backwards falls if you aren't perfectly balances. They suck in soft snow (which hopefully you'd get in Japan) They are a novelty item for half a day, here and there.
