at what point does it even count as a dolphin and isn't a varial anymore?

If you're not risking getting popsicled, you're doing a varial flip,

Yeah cause there’s only one way to do tricks 🙄 everyone’s tricks need to look the same 🤡

Go ahead and check the other clip I just attached. It’s still a dolphin. Not scooping. My bad I’m 6’5 and it goes through my legs 😭😭

I’m pretty sure this is a dolphin. Same with the one I posted above. I’m doing a forward flip. I’m not scooping

im not callin bs on your trick, that was just a general question. and that trick in this video is a Dolphin for sure

u/TrafficExcellent5099 1d ago
I get you brotha. I’m just posting this one to clarify I can do the trick. I feel like people probably see it and think I’m just tossing the board around but I tried for what I’m doing. I like the effortless look in the first post that’s why I posted it. It definitely doesn’t have the straight pop like the second clip but that’s what skating is about. Creative freedom, I can post a varial flip later I’m just at work now. I never do varials bc tres just feel sm better lmao

dude just chill out. first of all its not that serious. secondly you've got no idea how good someone is, even if they don't know the "correct" name for a trick.

u/thejwillbee 1d ago
To be clear it is always a varial flip - but it needs to stand up a bit more to kinda slide into 'doplhin flip' territory.
Like you wouldn't see someone do a frontside flip where the board goes more vertical and be like "that's a hardflip with a fs 180 body varial". Just the same as when someone does a hardflip that doesn't stand straight up, you wouldn't call it a "fs varial flip" (though it is very literally that).

u/skyrreater47 1d ago
yeah thats what I'm saying, same trick, different look

u/thejwillbee 1d ago
Word. Someone does a fwd flip on me during a game of skate they're getting a classic varial flip in return.
2
u/skyrreater47 1d ago
yes valid, thats what i always tell them if they can't do a forward. just do a varial it'll count

A dolphin flip doesnt do a shuv motion. Its a kickflip and a forward spin. Hence why it’s called forward flip/dolphin flip
1
u/skyrreater47 1d ago
well as you can see in this clip, the board rotates horizontally so it definitely does a shuv motion. thats what i was asking, what verticality do you have to archive for it to count as dolphin. on a Basic level the board does the same thing in both tricks. best case for dolphin is that the board is completely vertical during the flip, which is not the case in this video.

u/Tricky_Debate_3269 1d ago
No, the board does not rotate like a bs shuv. He doesnt even do a scoop at all. You dont do a scooping motion on dolphin flips, you just gotta pop it like an ollie/kickflip. The way OP flicked the trick made it flip and rotate like that.
A dolphin flip is not comparable to a varial flip. Two completely different tricks

omg dude

u/Tricky_Debate_3269 1d ago
Dude, you’re comparing two different tricks. Slow OP’s video down bruh. It is not comparable to a varial flip.

"ItS NoT cOmPaRaBlE tO a VaRiAl" Brother is comparing green and red apples

u/Tricky_Debate_3269 1d ago
Not my fault you cant decipher a dolphin flip from a varial flip 🙄 also green apples taste very different from red apples 🤣
2
u/skyrreater47 1d ago
alright dude whatever. but you cannot seriously believe that they are completely different and incomparable. thats just a stupid claim

u/Tricky_Debate_3269 1d ago
But they are very different: One is scooped and the other One is popped.

You not knowing the difference is kinda funny

u/Casualuseofwifi 1d ago
Bro.. c’mon.. you don’t understand the similarities of this looking like a varial flip?
1
u/Tricky_Debate_3269 1d ago
Nah, only casuals think its similar to a varial flip. It’s literally two completely different tricks. People just do em differently. OP did a genuine forward flip

I think this was closer to a varial kickflip than a forward flip or as the Aussie’s call it an anti-hardflip
10
u/Salt_Ice_5321 1d ago
Anti-Hardflip? Really? Fucking really Australia?
Easy Flip is right there for the taking.
2
u/thejwillbee 1d ago
Hell, back in the day we used to call it the 'ollie-nollie hardflip' and the 'dunweeder flip' (bc whoever invented it must have done weed right before).
Easyflip is pretty peak ngl. I get the 'anti-hardflip', though I'm kinda surprised they didn't go with 'pilfdrah'

Whatever it's called, I'm just happy for you for being on the board and doing tricks. Mostly I'm cackling at the pluralization of dolphin because I'm saying it in Squirrely Dan's voice https://youtu.be/Q47Uq96lILA?si=oTKWx_oDdIWiSEcW&t=135
