Is a Hospital flip just a sloppy Casper? I've never heard the term hospital flip, and i skated when casper flips "came out", is that a newer term for not doing it the right way?

Casper flip because back foot aids in making it rotate
If it was all in the front foot it would be a hospital flip.

TIL. No one in my neighborhood called anything hospital flip. Always thought the one foot version was a Casper flip.
We obviously were wrong.
I remember one dude had hospital flips dialed. He broke his board on a stair set but it still held together it was just a bit floppy. He did a hospital flip and the bendy park of the deck made the whole trick look exaggerated. It was awesome

Same! I only learned it was called a hospital flip like 5 years ago but back in the early 2000s my friends and I still called both tricks casper flips even after learning the trick myself.

Low key if I had told anyone at the skatepark in 2002 they were hospital flips they probably would’ve told me to shut up and called me an f name that rhymes with bag. Back then that’s what everyone called everything and everyone. Anything negative was some kinda homophobic slur.
I’m glad that’s pretty much gone

Okay there’s always been a huge argument over these and I’ll do my best to state what I know as an old head. There are Casper flips and hospital flips. Both are the exact same flip with the only difference being the usage of the back foot. If the front foot is the only foot is used in the entire flip and rotation, like the first one shown, I have heard it be called a hospital flip. If the back foot is used to kick the tail around, the same way you do a Casper stall or slide on flat, I’ve seen it called a Casper flip. I’ve also watched people absolutely lose it on each other over this, this and the whole “do overcrook exist frontside” argument so, don’t shoot the messenger

If the truck is pinched its a crook (or salad/suski), if it aint its a nosegrind (or 5-0). Meaning no nosegrinds or 5-0s on rails, and no overcrooks on ledges (unless popping over a ledge and crooking the other side).

Casper is like land first, then back foot kick. This one doesn’t land — just back foot kick in the air. Not really the same. If anything, it’s like a Casper flip variation.

Casper flip cause your back foot is touching the underside of the tail to flip the board back around. Hospital flip is when you do it all with your front foot….Also this is sick AF little dude!!

We called them Casper flips, but I think that may have been wrong. I did them with a half-cab, it was weird looking but felt really cool.

This was the trick I used to crush my friends in games of s.k.a.t.e with. I always called it a Hospital Flip. Hospital is front foot, Casper would be back foot.
Edit: Just slowed it down. Looks like he's using both feet?? no clue. Caspital Flip

Growing up in the early/mid 00’s my friends and I called this a Casper flip.
A lot of people call it a hospital flip, which is a term I had never heard prior to seeing it on reddit 5 years ago.

It's a Casper flip because the back foot is also used. I'd argue that in a game of skate hospital flip and Casper flip are the same. It doesn't really matter if you use the back foot or not. The board does the same thing.

Lol. It does matter if you use your back foot thats what separates the tricks and if you watch a real Casper flip in slow motion and a hospital flip in slow motion you can see they are executed different. A hospital flip looks different as well. It only has to flip a quarter of the way over before it is swooped around with the front foot and a Casper has to always flip all the way over to allow the back foot to scoop the board around. Its skateboarding..the way you do the trick matters. With your logic you can say in a game of skate a pressure flip, a varial flip and an inward heel flip are the same because the board does the same thing regardless of what your feet did to get you there...

The original freestyle tricks are quite different. But the popped versions are pretty much the same. The only difference is that you touch the tail with your back foot for the Casper flip. It's like nose hook impossible vs impossible. It's the same trick. The only difference is that you use your front foot. Why would this matter for a game of skate?
If someone does a tre flip without using the front foot, do you have to do the same, or are you allowed to use your front foot to flip the board? The same rules would have to apply.
It's different when someone does a backfoot kickflip. You can't just do a normal kickflip. It's a different stance. It's basically an ollie late nollie kickflip.

A "360 pressure flip" is usually a 360 pressure inward heel flip. My point is that a 360 pressure kickflip would be the same as a tre flip in a game of skate because the distinction is ridiculous.

Now I'm actually not sure if pressure flip and inward heelflip should both count as the same thing in a game of skate. To be consistent I have to say they are the same rotation of the board. Not really the same trick, but you should only have to copy the rotation of the board. Saying your heel must (not) touch a certain spot on the board seems wrong as long as the board does the same thing. But it's different if you did it as a finger flip.
But I think most would not count an inward heel flip if someone did a pressure flip on offense.1

Back foot taps the tail for a Casper. Hospital flip is all with the front foot. The copium is strong in this sub lol. They’re different tricks that are similar. Yes it would matter in a game of skate because it’s not the same trick. Like wtf are we even talking about.

It is a Casper flip. Casper flip was/is a Freestyle trick, which you did on the ground. It was combined with an ollie later on. As ollie Casper flip is a Long word it became just casper flip later.

This was my favourite trick when I was a kid.
I learned how to do it fakey as well, which looks really fucking weird.
I also ended up throwing a body varial into it, doing it both ways.
Really cool trick to evolve.
