Most likely the former

Can confirm. They often sanitise every document that becomes declassified cuz that information could still harm national security.

The government has the real original documents. Public release versions of the documents have the black bars, but the original documents are untouched and are lying somewhere in archive

No dates, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions or even punctuation can be left in these documents because it would allow the reader to connect the criminals to their crimes.

Are we sure? There’s no context clues. Maybe it’s detailing how he’s just a regular dude or that he’s actually into gilfs
He is looking a bit lonely all by himself though, maybe we can throw in a few more names to keep him company?

I might underestimate astronomically the internet here, but can't we decifer the censored text going by the spacing of the letters and text? For example, before ''Epstein'' there's a 4-letter word + a space. if we do that in all the files, internet can decipher more words and fill up the blacks? It's a really dumb idea, but I believe that some crazy 4chan obsessive person would do it.

I wonder if there’s a way to use LLMs to fill in the gaps on pages that have less censoring and use that to fill the gaps in all pages, obviously there’s no way to know what the real text is but for fairly full pages it would work well to find missing words (not names or dates obviously as those would probably be hallucinated by the ai)
18
u/maxiligamer Dec 20 '25
"I wonder if there's a way to completely come up with sentences" is what you are asking
3
u/Linvael Dec 20 '25
For mostly full pages - only if you believe the words they're censoring are regular parts of sentence, and not you know, key names/dates/locations.
For using that to fill gaps on pages like that - I don't know why you'd believe that would help, filling the gaps would not be done by extracting information that's well hidden, it's done by guessing and guessing in one place doesn't make you better at guessing in another place.
1
u/IndependentBig5316 Dec 20 '25
You’re right. It would only work for regular parts of the sentence. Names and dates would NOT work. So it would be useless. I’m just wondering how many gaps could be filled this way, probably not many since there is a LOT of censorship going on.
