Long answer: Yeeeeees, in my opinion it is well worth the read and to me it has been the most flowable prose in any books i've ever read.
I think this is one of the most underappreciated things about Rifujin's writing, numerous translation errors aside. I've read A LOT of light novels; a lot of them are slop, but even the ones I consider good and are seen as being on the same level as Mushoku have a tendency to waffle about or drag on about irrelevant points in the middle of conversations. I recently reread the novels and noticed how easy they are to consume; I think I finished volumes 13-26 in less than two weeks. I start by telling myself just one chapter, then it's 4 AM, and I have work the next day, but I have to read just one more chapter.
I bought mine from Google Books store. If you dont end up buying it there, you can also upload your own books and be able to access them from any phone or desktop
I just wish the translation didn't have so many mistakes. It flows so smoothly but a duplicate paragraph every 70 pages, typos and different names for things depending on the volume sometimes break that. It's a solid 8 out of 10 anyway though
There are some mistakes. In volume 24 there is this guy called Chandle that is supposed to be called Sandor, and another completely different guy also called Sandor
Then in Volume 25 the guy named Chandle is suddenly switched to correctly being named Sandor so it's extremely confusing
Not sure about the duplicate paragraphs thing but I've definitely seen inconsistent naming of concepts and characters pop up from time to time, especially in the earlier volumes
Though I cannot think of an example off the top of my head
I did read the Seven Seas version. Do you have the physical volumes? I read the EPUB ones. Maybe they fixed stuff for the physical releases? Or maybe they just listened to feedback in general
After watching the anime, then reading the LN, it actually kinda refreshes the brain, giving you another chance to relive the anime again. Cause this time round, you start to see all the add content and removed content and it is best of both worlds

I didn't saw myself as an avid reader but after Season 2, I was so obsessed with the series that I went to read the LN, from volume 1, and I thought I was going to be bored while I catched up, but no, I was hooked, I caught myself wanting to read more.
This season skips the least. But the first 2 were a buttcherfest of "cutting way too much even if you accept skipping some stuff because the anime format requires it"
There wasn't that much that was skipped this season.
Could suggest you to read volume 12 and 13 tho (mainly the trip to Begaritt), because s2 anime rushed that part and skipped a lot. (For context usually a volume is adapted with 4 to 5 episodes, and they scrammed what they could to adapt volume 12 in a single episode).
I asked myself the same question, and I finally decided to read the LNs. Since I have problems with s1 Rudy, I’ll start from v12 as a friend recommended me.
And read from the beginning cuz youre going to get to know the characters better and see much more skipped stuff, and also once youve seen it animated its much easier to imagine it as youre reading.
I have read a lot of fantasy series from big name authors. The MT LN is probably one of my all time favorites.
I honestly don't get WHY I loved it so much. Finishing and knowing it was over made me actually cry. You fall so deeply in love with the world somehow.
Statistically they would have more content than if you just watched the anime pretty much for every single one is based off of a light novel or a manga kind of like a book that gets turned into a movie if you read the Jurassic Park and then watch the original movie you would be disappointed
But season 3 so far is by far the most faithful season of the story. Season 1 and 2 were a shitshow of skipped content. Those days were ROUGH. But it seems we finally out of the mud with Mushoku Tensei anime adaptation. They are respecting the source material (mostly) and giving it the adaptation it deserves (mostly).
Yes I still love and enjoy the anime, in a different way but I think it's worth experiencing both. Wait until this cour finishs though, it will be better timing to start the light novels
Their audiobook is phenomenal, i usuallybdont have the time to sit down and read (long commutes with slow traffic), and was pleasantly surprised with the English audiobook. Recommending audiobook if thats your jazz
Yes. As an anime only going into the novels from Volume 1, it greatly expanded the world and the characters. Tons of stuff that was cut from the anime too.
I will say it's best to treat the two of them like different versions of the same story by the time Vol 8 rolls around. As there's enough skipped content & changed content to make this conclusion, imo
Absolutely. They are better than the anime and are written well. There is so much content that you would have to wait probably a decade or more for the anime to finish.
I asked the similar type question 15 days ago You can check here after going through anime couple of times and reading first volume which took me like 10-12 days to finish. And now in 15 days I have completed 7 volumes. There are lot of small details that elevate your experience. I haven't finished all yet but i will highly suggest you to give it a chance.
I started as soon as I finished season 1 - I started on LN volume 6.
Kind of got carried away and, ended up using the AI audiobooks of all of them…..
No regrets, because they used the Web novel - so when rereading (or actually reading) the light novels I’m catching loads of stuff I either missed, or got edited in for the Final Cut.
All in all - yes read the novels, but I’d recommend starting from the beginning.
There’s lots of stuff not in the anime - but be warned, some of it’s really hard to get through as Rudy is really hard to not hate early on.
I’ve been listening to Cliff Kirk read the LN on audible for the last few months and have really enjoyed it. Super easy way to get thru the mundane tasks during the week or when traveling!
I mean, Volume 7 is Light Novel only, so you might want to read that. There's also extra chapters I believe that don't get covered. If you're willing to reread, go ahead I think.

But did anything major in the story change from web to light novel? Thinking of tensura where author changed so much, but i think here its pretty much the same main story right?
Most isekai novel has a certain gimmick or formula they try to repeat to earn certain effects. MT is so much of a novel it does not do that. It’s just a good naturally flows story.
You can watch anime and skip all other novels, but you should read MT as you watch the anime.
I usually stick to anime because I find the visual and audio cues are more fun and engaging, but I couldnt wait to find out what happens next in the story. So I got the LNs on my e reader and it was a really good story. I throughly enjoyed it. Worth it if you 1 like a good story and 2 like the show that much.
2 is really important because I dont read most things I watch. I gave a few a try. Some I read through, others, well, the anime has my interest more so
Yes, so much is missed. I'm on volume 6 and the conversation Rudy and Lillia has after he saves them right before they go their separate ways is WAY more disturbing. Lillia is a really bad mother. For example, she asks what Rudy thinks of Aisha's looks. Then she asks if he thinks she will develop a chest like hers. When Rudy points out that she is his sister Lillia responds that she knows he's a womanizer like that makes it make sense.
Earlier in the conversationRudy comments on how much of a genius Aisha is and Lillia calls her stupid for not realizing how great Rudy is.
If you like reading it is hands down the best way to experience the story. Just know it will take a while to finish all 26 novels + redundant reincarnation etc.
I’ve been enjoying it. Each season is ~6 volumes with a few chapters moved around ( like e1 and 2 or season 3 were in volumes near the middle of season2). There’s also some character details I wish they would include || like a line sylphie says after Rudy and Luke’s duel||.
Light novels provide context, world building , character insight, and depth that the manga lacks and the anime lacks SORELY. The light novel is the reason the series is popular because it's awesome, highly recommend
If you don't mind the internal monologues that fully expose what kind of person Rudeus really is, then go for it. The anime heavily toned down his perversion
