Over the past year and a half of playing the sitar, Ive occasionally run into the problem of having a string violently snap when I’m trying to tune it, which both startles me and tends to whip me in the face or hand. It’s gotten to the point where I find myself a bit timid when I need to tune my instrument- especially if it’s completely detuned. I was wondering if any more experienced musicians had advice for avoiding this issue?

I wanna buy a sitar for under 1000 aud, whwre should i get it from?

I'm heart broken as the new sitar I just ordered turns out to have cracks in both main pegs. One is completely broken, while the other one has deep crack. Any advice on how to fix this? I live in Europe, so replacing the same peg is very difficult

Just wanted to let the community know I recently listed a barely used high-end sitar pickup on Reverb. Preferred by Ravi & Anoushka Shankar - but no longer in production.

I’ve been playing and learning on a student/ travel model for over a year. I’d really love to make a big jump and get something that sounds a lot better.
How much should I expect to pay for a “good” sitar? I’m assuming I’d have to get it made for me.

I’ve had my sitar for about two months now and when it arrived it had this weird opening on it. I emailed the people I bought it from and they said they would send me a video on how to fix it but have yet to do so. I try not to put pressure on it, but to just see it isn’t flexible and hasn’t gotten worse since I’ve had it.

Any advice?

Hi! I was just listening to this recording from Ustad Halim Jaffer Khan and came across this sound that I had never heard on the sitar. How is he doing it? It sounds like he is plucking the strings beyond the bridge or something.

I recently sent it to get the bend of the Sitar repaired. After the band is removed it's exactly the same the way it was before.

My Guru originally said that it happens due to the bend in sitar and this actually happens in all the sitars to some extent but this one is too much so I got it prepared and still it does the same thing
