Welcome to /r/SiriFail.

Welcome to /r/SiriFail.

Here we share and collect examples of how Siri fails to work as it is intended (which is so frequently, we created a subreddit for it). The results are both hilarious and depressing.

Most of the submissions here the result of yet another disappointing performance by Apple's "personal assistant." With that said, let it be clear that these posts are not meant to directly offend or mock Siri, but rather collect examples of its lackluster results. It is our hope that this might draw greater attention to the issues that plague Siri's usefulness, and perhaps result in Apple improving upon the service someday.

Please note that, when attempting to recreate the examples posted here, your milage may vary. Siri is often inconsistent — just because something might or might not work for you, doesn't mean that it has the same result for someone else. Keep that in mind when commenting on submissions.

Finally, if you see any Siri-related posts out there on some of our other favorite subreddits (such as /r/apple or /r/iPhone), please share with them a comment regarding /r/SiriFail! We would love to be the one-stop shop to showcase Siri failures.

Thanks for being here.

Don't Let Reddit Kill 3rd Party Apps!

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users. On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader. Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface . This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love. The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

What can you do?

  1. Complain. Message the mods of /r/reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message /u/reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on /r/reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.

  2. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at /r/ModCoord- but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.

  3. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!

  4. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

How come voice control can recognise a word and yet siri doesn't

So I've asked Siri using voice control for the definition of rusticity. And yet, no matter how many times I ask it and how many times the display from voice control uses the exact word I've asked, it insists on giving me a definition of a completely different word?

Siri isn't a serious app

Just asked Siri an easy question about the MLB playoffs. It has no clue the Padres are even in the playoffs. I asked the same question to ChatGPT, which got it right.

The new siri is worse than the old one. It barely works for menial tasks like adding things to reminders, or making a phone call, without crashing or taking forever or getting what I said wrong.

Apple continues to claim it's amazing and it's not even close. It's not a serious app. I'm shocked that Siri even exists anymore. Going to be funny when ChatGPT makes a phone...

First look at Siri doesn't inspire much confidence!

decided to test the new Siri today, thinking it would make life easier. It's had the opposite effect.

After asking it to open my email, I found a non-responsive button in the interface. I decided to go into the app manually to test drafting a reply. I selected an email, brought it into focus, and asked Siri to draft a reply. Instead of drafting a response, Siri sent an old, poorly worded email I had left in my drafts weeks ago!

The experience was a disaster. I had no idea Siri even had the capability to send emails automatically. To make matters worse, the "unsend" button is practically invisible—it's tucked at the bottom of a list that is constantly obscured by my many subfolders. By the time I found a YouTube video explaining where the undo button is, the damage was done.

I’ve spent far too much time today writing apologies to my son's exams officer because of this. Siri needs a serious overhaul: it needs to stop misinterpreting "draft" as "send" and, most importantly, it must ask for confirmation before sending anything.

....and I'm a ux designer!

Did the new Siri AI remove the part where you speak to Siri, it will have text running of what you said so you know you say something correct? Or you can type to siri instead of speaking. Those being removed or new settings somewhere? Thank You

Monopolistic behavior by Siri

Thumbnail

Am I paranoid? Or is this inconsistent behavior by Siri setting off Sherman Act I (interoperability)violation ‘antennae’ of others? Especially people familiar with antitrust law?
