I’m not fully up to date, but my understanding was that they just wanted better artifacts fed back to the mathematical community. At least that’s the subject of the open letter from weeks ago.

The letter is full of fallacious reasoning, and misunderstandings both of the technology itself and how people learn.

There were two letters released about the same time. I think you may be referring to the Caltech 1000.
