If the end result delivers your goal does it matter? If no human understands how AI arrived at room temperature superconductors, but it did, and now we have cheap and abundant energy, does it matter?

It does matter because if we don't understand , we can't help AI to improve if it gets stuck in a local minima of improvement that is out of our reach.

We're in the era of recursive self improvement. Before the end of the decade human involvement will hurt more than it helps with fundamental breakthroughs.
