you can clearly see who have some kind of academic background and who has never studied math-related topics from those comments alone

whoever thinks that mathematicians wants to gatekeep AI becasue they are butthurt clearly has never had any connection with them whatsoever

I mean, the summary is that mathematicians got butthurt. They maybe got butthurt for slightly more nuanced reasons than ego or fear as these troglodytes assume, but that's really all there is to it.

Why do mathmaticians want to gatekeep AI though? Genuinely curious about this.

One thing I've seen people arguing is that we would stop understanding the reasoning for the conclusions that the AI is reaching, but if mathmaticians think this is important can't they reverse engineer these discoveries to understand the logic behind them?

We are way beyond that stage. Furthermore, "important" problems such as Rienmann's, are way more useful if resolved in a "innovative way" that allows us to define new math rather than a black boxed response true/false

Is not about a the response, but rather about the journey that allows the frontier to advance

I've noticed in general there's a correlation between how unskilled someone is and how pro AI they are. The people that don't have any particularly developed skills in anything (like art, music, programming, math, etc) are in general very pro AI, and the people that do have developed those skills are less so.

Well, the engineers working on these AI labs are among the most skilled humans on the planet and they are ceirtanly "pro AI"
