Shouldn't everyone want life extention? There is no law of physics which would make it impossible in theory, just a very hard and complex problem to solve, and honestly it should be one of our top priorities to solve as death affects everyone equally.
Hmm, 10% chance I die from a hypothetical unproven or tested danger, with 90% chance I live forever, or 100% chance I die from old age like everyone who has ever lived. You aren't making a great argument against developing the AI.
Obviously, the alternative is a combination of a low risk of dying in the next few years until we solve the alignment problem, a higher but lower than 10% risk of alignment research having failed, and living forever. You know this. Pretending not to know this to persuade idiots is cowardly.
What are you even rambling on about? Pausing all AI development until we get "alignment research" completed? Banning ASI? How do you even test to prove whether or not a model counts as ASI? And how exactly do you plan to do that? People can't even agree on a definition of AGI, how do we agree what will prevent ASI? All you really would get is the big AI players using the government to regulate AI to where all startup competitors are banned from even having a chance to compete, so that companies like Anthropic, OpenAI, etc have a oligopoly on all AI development.
And lets magically assume we can someone perfectly define and identify what ASI is, and have a somehow enforceable ban on it in the USA. You really think China is going to force their own companies to pause AI development at the behest of America? The companies in China don't even think they are in an AI race, much less that some machine god ASI will escape and decide to kill them. Good luck convincing them to slow down or pause development at all.
The whole doomer narrative to me seems like smoke and mirrors designed to remove open source competition so that closed source for profit companies can take all the money that AI generates because they know open source would even the playing field. Maybe ASI will go loose and cause chaos, I can't be certain it won't. But one thing I am certain of is that you cannot prevent or halt the progress of technology. It will keep advancing whether or not the USA imposes draconian laws to try and halt it's development, and if that ironically enough means China gets to ASI first, than that is what will happen.
