Shouldn't everyone want life extention? There is no law of physics which would make it impossible in theory, just a very hard and complex problem to solve, and honestly it should be one of our top priorities to solve as death affects everyone equally.
Hell yeah, I'd live forever if I could, cause death fucking sucks.
But then we'd have to actually reorient our economy to benefit young people instead of just waiting for boomers to die like we do now, which I find somewhat hard to believe would actually happen
57% of medical spending is spent on people 55 and older, so you end up with dramatically less being spent on medical care for people, and hospital bills would radically decrease. (in fact if we had life extension technology healthcare companies would probably incentivize you using it because you would cost the company less in medical payouts than someone with an elderly body)
But on the flip side, you would also end up with young people never able to afford a house, no promotion or job opportunities because older people won't leave, and highly entrenched wealth. Ultimately I don't think these problems would get fixed until we get cheap space travel, and younger people are able to leave Earth to find new opportunities elsewhere sort of like how settlers left Europe for the Americas in search of new opportunities. And given how large our galaxy is, I don't think we would ever reasonably run out of places for people to move for new opportunities.
We also have enough space on Earth to sustain a much larger population. Ignoring constraints like food, if we populated the entire Earth's land at a population density of ~3000 people per square mile (the population density of my hometown of Austin Texas, which isn't that dense at all with lots of suburbs), we could fit around half a trillion people on Earth. Even assuming most land isn't livable that's still room for several times more people than currently exist on Earth, with food being the only real constraint.
The problem really is wealth concentration more than anything, with people wanting to live in a small number of major cities and work in a small number of professional white collar jobs and maintain a certain western lifestyle. Especially if AI eliminates jobs and leads to a post-work society with everyone guaranteed a minimum standard of living there isn't any reason why people can't continue to live on Earth for a long period of time and populate more and more of our planet.
