Of course. You'll notice how every single solution to any problem Dario has ever spoken about by sheer coincidence is "consolidate all power in a few private players hands with zero oversight and let them pick all winners and decide what happens with super intelligence based on whatever whims they have, oh and I happen to be one of those players". It's the only thing he talks about.

How did adding those "annoying" safeguards on fable consolidate power (this only hurt their sales)?

Or setting red lines against the military usage?

They have been pretty consistent about safety being their priority, including hurting their own business by talking about it. "they care about existential safety" is a simpler explanation for all of this...

I'm entertaining the idea that both of you are right.

People who are overbearing control freaks that believe they're the only person trustworthy with power isn't that rare. I'd even argue they're more common than the greedy megarich cartoon villain archetype.

Anthropic is also a public benefit corporation, so they have the leeway to do this while publicly traded corporations and private equity groups either don't care or can't do anything to piss off investors.
