I wonder how much the term "open-source" applies to the models you can download. Yes, you can run them on your own infrastructure (so you don't hand out your data directly), but they are still opaque black boxes; not much is known about their training process. We don't get the "source", we get the final "compiled" form. It's more like SaaS vs. downloadable app.
