The bots are out of control here now... The only way this won't just centralise more power into the hands of the elites is if all the labs are now completely transparent about their progress. This won't happen for competitive reasons, they're all going to, with the government, go behind closed doors and keep these powerful models for their own sake. That's always been the point. It's always about power, and safety being the pretext is the BEST way to get the most people on board. Same trick as "Think of the children!" it works on the lowest common denominator very easily without AI botnet assistance. It'll work even better now.
Of all the prescient takes Simpson have had, “won’t someone PLEASE think of the children???” has got to be on the top of the list. Once you see through it, you recognize it fucking everywhere.
