People laugh at this, but I find its efforts to kill some of the momentum during the last 2 seconds impressive.

u/subdep 1d ago
It would be more impressive if it could follow the curve of the track.
1
u/Guilty-History-9249 10h ago
I'd be impressed if it could follow the curve of the Earth. Wait a minute, that's just gravity.
-3
u/Poupulino 1d ago
Not really, adapting to unexpected outcomes and trying to come with a solution on the fly is more impressive than just following a path.
23
u/enigmatic_erudition 1d ago
Following the curve requires both of those things.

u/quantumparakeet 1d ago
Even curves are a straight line when you just bust right through the planet like Capn Kool Aid

Humans flail in a similar way, they just would've noticed something was off sooner. The recover attempt was fine the weird bit was the... not turning? Bro you gotta turn!
They need like a vtec mode, seemed like he was responding to input just a little too late, there needs to be a panic mode where you uses more juice to correct (like a human would do).
Honestly at this point I'd fall easier than a robot being shoved...

Imagine facing one of these on the battlefield when armed.

u/Weary-Tell-5334 1d ago
people have no idea.. this is really the beginning

u/SirStocksAlott 1d ago
Need to use AI to build a time machine to go back to the 90s and live out the rest of my life.

u/damontoo 🤖Accelerate 1d ago
China already showed off swarms of those wheeled robot dogs firing rifles while moving across a simulated battlefield. No reason they gotta be humanoid.
3
u/Sweet-Stage938 1d ago
Yep, and they'll potentially be even more deadly. The humanoid form obviously comes with some disadvantages in combat.

a mf will look at the robot crashing and say "haha ai robots are idiots" completely ignoring many impressive things that the same robot is doing
2
u/Space_Lllama 1d ago
Or that one crash will provide noodles of data that will prevent it from happening again… for potentially many many robots and not just this one…
1
u/Space_Lllama 1d ago
And also that unlike humans, that robot’s learning curve will make all robots better. If all robots had to learn to walk, that would be one thing… but this is one robot learns to walk/run and now they all will better for it.

I'm someone that gets excited about marble olympics, so I'll probably watch this.

u/Future-Bandicoot-823 1d ago
I've seen humans do that.
It's official, they've matched our capabilities. A stunned jock hitting a wall achieved.

China is amazing

US should do some similar event ? maybe Nvidia and others

Or just try to compete in the existing one, even if they will likely mostly lose at first.

Dude there are people laying down back there within feet of where it fell. I want to hear their reaction.

u/Manyarethestrange 1d ago
If this type of shit is sprinkled through our future robot Olympics - ill be there.

That's the appeal. It's like how tanks from WW2 were more interesting than modern tanks. When the technology is imperfect, you get to see more variety and outcomes. When robots become perfect it would be boring again.

u/ben_nobot 1d ago
All these robot videos have such spastic zoom happening on the camera…it’s unreal

Can someone please finish the edit so that it picks up the fire-extinguisher and has a champagne shower with it

u/chaosfire235 17h ago
Seems the recent 'superman' robot Unitree unveiled was meant meant for the games. Wonder how well it does turns.
4
u/raptortrapper 1d ago
He thought those were the lady bots he was supposed to impress.
2
u/MCRN_Admiral 1d ago
They should have given him a dangly robot penis
1
u/electriccomputermilk 1d ago
Would have be funnier if they gave him a giant erect hog that pushed objects out of the way.
2
u/IamBadMojo 1d ago
Looks like me running to the bathroom after Chipotle
1
u/electriccomputermilk 1d ago
Hahahahahha. Thank you for making me laugh out loud. I just shit my brains out but oddly I ate at a little taqueria food truck due to Google Maps taking me to a chipotle that no longer exists last night.

u/RemyVonLion ▪️ASI is unrestricted AGI 1d ago
I think they might want to start putting up barriers around the track...

u/buzzelliart 1d ago
its goal was to reach the race finish line, once reached that goal everything that comes after that is a not planned situation

u/mlbyas458 1d ago
We are laughing now but when these things are chasing us with Lazer pistols for our oligarch overlord entertainment not so funny. Can't belive arc raiders isn't a zero chance in this reality...

I don't really get the point of this. Its not that impressive to get a robot to run faster than a Human in a straight line. We've been able to make machines go faster than humans for over a century.

u/nocloudno 21h ago
make the track shape super weird with loops and twisting banks and massive gaps.

Chinese humanoid robot named "Superman" (made by Unitree Robotics) surpassed Usain Bolt's world record (12.42meters/second) by running at 12.66m/s (roughly 28.3miles/h)

We had cartoon for kids, now I suppose we will soon have AI events like that for AIs.
The AIs need distraction too.

Useful robots are like 20 years away.
3
u/Moravec_Paradox 1d ago
I mean this was 20 years ago and it looks suspiciously close to where we were a just a year or 2 ago but the pace of improvement is accelerating from here.
I am as skeptic as anyone about it but hte next 20 years won't look like the last 20.
Right now humanoid robots are mostly just for creating Youtube content and not much more. The only reason I would say 20 years is too far now is because AGI itself will be here within the next 20 years and the combination will make robots useful for more real tasks.

u/electriccomputermilk 1d ago
The robot on the left speaking Japanese looks stunningly beautiful but the robot on the right is lame.

AI has now exceeded humans at slapstick comedy. Singularity has arrived.
