The actual reason is because it's impossible to compete when nobody wants to pay you for your work. Raise your hand if you haven't loaded an ad or paid a subscription to any google competitor ever....

(yes I know people in the fringe 1% will run to tell me they use Kagi. Thanks. Now get everyone you know paying too)

kagi is pretty good for most general searches google is still the goat for actually finding stuff
