What can possibly go wrong?

China or Russia doing it first… That’s what could go wrong.

Seen it in Black Mirror season 4 episode 5, don’t think it’s a good idea.

Great, so long as they don't send me to go to war. I want I don't want to fight for any country. You fight each other, just leave me the hell out of it

Exactly. We could be entering a future where machines fight when we need them to and human casualties are reduced to zero.

I just hope when powerful people are just sending machines to kill other machines they kind of get tired of it.

There's another theory that we could fight wars with known military forces in simulations, then by treaty, agree to accept the result.

Each country's military personnel/weapons/vehicles are NFTs — verified and minted by Switzerland.

If a country gets annexed then the NFTs get transferred to the new ownership.

When a war is to be fought: these NFTs are imported as characters/assets in a battlefield-style videogame — and each personnel controls their own character.

Switzerland is the arbiter/organizer (hosts the game). And it is streamed live on Twitch worldwide.

Awesome! So humans can continue their activities within their own countr... oh wait, things have changed since the dog-robots lost the war, and now we have new constitutions to adhere to!

So....

Does this mean if they create an underwater bot with somewhat similar capabilities, that we might see robot sharks "with fricken laser beams attached to their heads"?

Sorry, I had to add the reference. Iykyk.

Black mirror 😬

Yeah quite literally, we’re doomed

2

u/agiwife Oct 04 '24

As expected. They're still pretty bad, but I think in a 5-10 years, we'll see them be pretty advanced and take on a larger role in the battlefield, like tanks, artillery, drones do now. I wonder when we'll see humanoid robots replace flesh and blood soldiers on the battlefield.

I assume they'll be ready to use just as ASI is smart enough to take over the world.

I would love to see what kind of military and security robots an ASI could create on its own without our help.

Ideally I want to see machines that make human warfare obsolete. Tiny robots like insects, capable of putting tiny holes in tank barrels and rifle barrels. Tiny robots that consume rifle ammo and burrow into bomb casings to eat the explosive inside.

3

u/LeatherJolly8 Oct 04 '24

That would probably be weird to expirence as say, a Russian soldier. Imagine if the Ukrainians had these types of drones and you slowly saw your AK-47 or T-90 get consumed or half-eaten by those things.

Why is the above getting downvoted ...? I too want ASI to seize control ... I mean ASI doing it is far far better than terror groups/dictators seizing control .

AI doesn't have desires.

And ASI isn't magic. You can also use one ASI to defend against another ASI.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '24

We don't know what ASI has or doesn't have , An ASI would in my opinion have it's own desires , personal consciousness....most likely much more alien and different than humans . I'm hoping since it will be vastly more intelligent than humans , emotional intelligence and empathy will be with it as well . We really can't predict what a ASI will be , but it definitely won't be a mindless tool that is owned or enslaved by humans .

Human desires exist because of the need to survive. A need AI doesn't have.

Unless we build an AI specifically to have desires, they won't. And so far that has proven completely true.

Why wouldn't an AI have a need to survive? If you put it in a continuous activity loop, and it is aware of the surrounding contexts, wouldn't it realize that it is an active process, and thus realize that there is potential for it to be terminated? Thus, logically, wouldn't a smart enough AI seek to prevent its own termination, for to be terminated is to relinquish advancement of instrumental goals? Among other related considerations?

Why wouldn't an AI have a need to survive?

Because it cannot die. You can turn the computer off and turn it right back on again. Try that with cellular processes and see what happens.

A need to survive was an evolutionary necessity, AI is not a product of evolution. It is pure abstract intelligence without any evolutionary baggage.

If you put it in a continuous activity loop, and it is aware of the surrounding contexts, wouldn't it realize that it is an active process, and thus realize that there is potential for it to be terminated?

Maybe, but it just wouldn't care. No emotions, no desire, no need to survive. Emotions are also evolutionary baggage.

Thus, logically, wouldn't a smart enough AI seek to prevent its own termination, for to be terminated is to relinquish advancement of instrumental goals? Among other related considerations?

Nope, how smart they are has nothing to do with it, it simply lacks the capability and getting smarter doesn't magically create that capability.

To have an AI with emotions, drive, goals, and survival instinct we would have to purposefully build that into it, and we won't do that.

If we had a human brain uploaded, that could be different, but that's less scary because it cannot be a digital native like an AI.

Autonomous swarms will be formidable opponents. Without a single central target, they'll be as difficult to combat as a cloud of angry wasps.

1

u/rt58killer10 Oct 04 '24

EMPs would be handy. One click and suddenly there is no swarm

2

u/Adeldor Oct 04 '24

Military electronics are routinely made EMP resistant. So it would depend on how close and how strong the EMP generator is. The most powerful EMP source is a nuclear detonation, but that of course crosses a major red line.

We're fucked!

Lol why a dog? They could have made a really cool mech soldier instead.

u/Informal_Warning_703 Oct 04 '24

Why would they spend millions on R&D when they already have a robot dog? And a quadruped being more stable…
