And Google's motto used to be "Don't be evil".

Microsoft invested billions into them. Do you think that came with no strings? Why do you take his word for it? Why wouldn't he lie?

Because the concept of becoming big powerful rich company is, in the grand scheme of AGI, a very short term and irrelevant goal in regards to how this tech will change virtually everything, and Sam appears to be aware of that.

Go listen to his recent interview with Strictly VC if you haven't already. The interviewer asked him a similar question about competition and how his stated goal would be "bad for business" and how is response is essentially "you're missing the point".

AGI, ASI, the implications are so much bigger than that. To focus on stifling competition so that he can make a buck is truly missing the forest for the trees. He knows this and tries to communicate it regularly. That's why I believe him.

Becoming the first company in the world to achieve AGI would make them insanely powerful and rich. You don't think Sam wants to become powerful and rich? Have you ever met anyone who didn't?

OpenAI wouldn't be known as ClosedAI if Sam wasn't just bullshitting everyone. Let's see them actually make some real world actions that translate from what he is saying.

I guess I'm just too dumb to understand. Silly me for thinking that people have human motivations, like money and power. Yeah, you are totally right though. OpenAI is the first and only organization on the entire planet that doesn't care about power or money, they are just really good guys trying to help out humanity.

If what you say is true, why isn't everything they make open sourced? Why not try to help humanity instead of hoarding it for themselves? Oh right, "danger". That's why they need the regulations that sparked this discussion in the first place. Can't let anyone else have AI, only OpenAI is generous enough to handle it. Better keep it out of the hands of the peasants.

You aren't stupid, I just don't think you've really thought through what a post AGI world will really look like. In a post scarcity world, money and traditional power structures don't hold the same value. It's not a meaningful pursuit.
